Some interesting breakdown analysis,Ricardo.
Whether Zodiac,or another author, that person would have made certain decisions,at the outset of a proposed cipher - and a choice of specific alphabetic letters may have been a crucial decision,as well as the solution message that he/she wished to impart [?].
The four letters that none of the solutions used, are ''high tariff'' Scrabble letters - which means that they are relatively ''rarely'' used letters, anyway.
Also, the consideration to quantity of letters that the solution employs [?].With the Celebrity Cypher,''we'' are facing between 63 and 65.So,the statistics of your findings,in comparison to ''expectation'' [?].e.g. How many ''e's'',would we actually expect to materialize ?
Naturally,I would suggest that the most outstanding feature of all,is that Rubislaw 32's solution does not employ the vowel ''i''.For a cypher of 65 symbols, that is ''high probability against'' - and would suggest that it is a decision entirely deliberate,by the author.
But,that would be on the basis that Rubislaw 32' solution is correct.
But of course, that is something that I would inevitably, point out !

Inspired by Ricardo's breakdown analysis on attempts at the Celebrity Cypher,a thought did occur to me,which might appeal to the reader,as something to develop further [?] :
I had referred to the letters, that Ricardo laid bare,in terms of ''Scrabble tariff'' - which is really another way of ''grading'',according to average frequency of use,in the English Language.
Perhaps it is the case, that Zodiac employed the use of a Scrabble board and tiles,to assist him in constructing ciphers,in general [?].
A Scrabble board represents a grid system of [15X15] 225 positions.
A Chinese ''Go'' board represents a grid system of [19X19] 361 positions.
This sort of idea, coupled perhaps, with the use of letter tiles in small bowls, would allow the cipher architect to ''enact'' a cipher physically,as opposed to use of ''pen and paper''.And considerations to make changes,or ''tinkering'',might more readily be ''facilitated'' [?].
To concentrate on The Celebrity Cypher, specifically :
What springs to mind, when we are confronted with a cipher, and in this case,The Celebrity Cypher, with ''approximately'' 63 symbols ?
Perhaps,a grid system of ''approximately'' 63 symbols.
How about the standard Chess Board ?
The standard Chess Board has [8X8] 64 positions.
Perfect, for ''enacting'' out,and planning a cipher solution for the 1990 Celebrity Cypher.

Following on from my previous post,here....yes,it seems very likely, that the architect of The Celebrity Cypher started with a Chess Board, and some Scrabble letter tiles.
The solution, ordinarily, must come first, since it is the ''message''that has usually prompted the cipher's architect to construct the cipher,in the first place.
It would be then that the symbols would be selected, and in the case of The 1990 Celebrity Cypher, there are a number ''pointers'',that indicated that its architect was Zodiac.
A postcard format for the conveyed cipher was clearly selected - and, which so materialized. Not least,''Zodiac's'' attention to the way he laid the cipher out.
The archetypal holiday postcard,of tradition, involved choosing a picture postcard of one's holiday venue, and then writing just a few words, along the lines of :
''Weather is lovely - wish you were here.''
Brief, since the ''holidayer'' wanted to convey, that they were too busy having a great time,to write a letter.
In addition,of course, would be entered the recipient's name and address.
So,this is how ''Zodiac'' laid out his cipher on the postcard. It is perhaps, almost predictable, that on first inspection, one will notice ''features'',such as ''OAKLAND,CA''.The ''features'' are entirely deliberate, and draw the examiner immediately into a false sense of initial interpretation.
Isn't it just always the case, that Zodiac takes everyone for a ''Sucker'' [!].As someone once said : '' 70% of the world are turkeys - the rest,unremarkable.''.
Just on a point of the ''speculation'' on the picture depicted,on the front of the card.Regardless of what has been reported,in the past - all that we know is that Lyndon Lafferty stated that it was a photograph of driftwood on a sandy beach.
Simply,a DESCRIPTION.

The reader might note that there may be opportunities to track down the picture postcard, that was employed as The 1990 Celebrity Cypher.
Firstly,we have Lyndon Lafferty's description of its front, being ''driftwood on a sandy beach''.
Secondly, there is,and on the ''cipher'' side,in small print : SANDY BEACHES - CALIFORNIA.One might also note that there is a ''thumbnail etching'' of USA,with a [relatively] large arrow, pointing towards the coastline of Southern California.
One assumes, therefore, that the photograph on the front of the postcard, was taken of a beach in Southern California....perhaps Santa Barbara County, perhaps Orange County [?].
An opportunity for an ''industrious'' investigator to find the postcard's source [?].
The cipher architect's selection of picture, could be for a number of reasons.....perhaps ''Zodiac'',and where ''it'' all started [?].....perhaps the Domingo/Edwards case [?].
An interesting additional ''slant'' to the Celebrity Cipher, nevertheless.

Here,presented for the first time,is ''Zodiac's'' Celebrity Cipher solution,in its original ''5 X 13'' line format :
N O B L E P L E A S U R E L O S E S A L O V E B U S B O Y S A U U N J E U S A N S S O N S P N A S E L E N O B L E P L E A S U R E
-------------------------
As is apparent,''Zodiac'' presented his Celebrity Cipher,in ''holiday postcard'' form,on a holiday-type postcard.
''Zodiac'' mailed the postcard, from Oakland,CA,to the Vallejo Times Herald, and is now believed to refer to his ''Secret Pal'',Paul Avery [''SP''].
Less than three months later,''Zodiac'' mailed a Christmas card to the San Francisco Chronicle, which again, referred to his ''Secret Pal'',Paul Avery.
In both cases,Investigative Journalist,Paul Avery, was in the employment of the ''third'' of the ''big three'' Newspapers,in the San Francisco vicinity.
The San Francisco Examiner.

In view of the ''1988 New Canaan Letter'' emerging, within the last three years,it is beginning to become apparent that ''Zodiac'' moved on,from employing a ''17'' character line,as in 1969,with his ''408'' and ''340'' ciphers,to a ''13'' character line format, almost twenty years forward.
Two cryptograms,contained within that 1988 letter,were displayed with his ''13'' selection.One,as a ''13 X 13'' rectangle,and the other,as a ''7 X 13'' offering,with 3 extra characters added.
The FBI appear to have solved both, which allude to a local diva, who clearly annoys Zodiac, with him debating whether he should do something to silence her.
The ''1988 New Canaan letter'' has yet to surface,in a fully public sense, owing to a website manager's decision,to retain it for ''private membership'' purposes.
Hopefully,he will a exercise a generous inclination,soon.
----------------
What does the 1990 Celebrity Cipher reveal,in its ''5 X 13'' format ?
Initially,it would appear that ''NOBLE PLEASURE'',is almost employed as the bread of a sandwich [?].At 13 characters,in length,it might be part of the reason, why Zodiac elected to select this particular phrase,as quoted by Frederick the Great.
If we examine the ''horizontals'' of the solution structure, lines that contain unfinished words, make for some interesting reading.''BOYS'' and ''USA'' emerge in the middle line. And,in the second line, the phrase ''LOVE BUS'' looks novel [?].
On the ''verticals'',or columns,the interesting ''PAU SP'' becomes apparent.By accident,or design,one might ask [?].Naturally,''Paul,Secret Pal'',comes to mind.
---------------
What does become of curiosity,I would suggest,is looking at that late year period of 1990,and the two presumed correspondences from Zodiac.
Both,it would seem, directed at Paul Avery.....but,in effect, using the other two major competitive Newspapers,as ''messenger boys'' [?].
Both the Celebrity Cipher and Christmas Card would seem to have been magnanimous gestures,to Paul Avery.Almost that he and Avery had ''fought the good fight'',and now it was time to lay down their weapons.
Perhaps poignant that Avery never received, either of the 1990 correspondences. The Celebrity Cipher was handed over to the FBI,via the Vallejo Police, and remained unsolved, until,as I maintain,2014.
The Christmas card was overlooked, and found a home in a broom cupboard,at the SF Chronicle offices, until re-emerging in 2007.

The picture postcard is nicely presented at mk-zodiac.com ,Ricardo.
It should, perhaps,be of interest that the Marianne Moore postage stamp,is covering a line marked area, designed for a more conventionally sized posage stamp.Tending to suggest, that a more elongated stamp,as the Marianne Moore one chosen, was entirely a deliberate decision made,by the man presumed to be the Zodiac.
Within that line marked area of the postcard plain side,is printed : ''Printed in Ireland''
Though giving the obvious information, that it was the country of Ireland specified...it's actual distribution, more than likely, emanated from California and,Greater Los Angeles on particular.
In fact,''John Hinde'' postcards, from a similar period, give notice that,a company called ''Mitlock Publishers Inc.'',would have been responsible for the card's distribution.Mitlock were ''North Hollywood'' based.
''John Hinde'' was the photographer responsible for the actual picture taken.Hinde [1916 - 1997],was born in Somerset,England, and moved to Ireland, after marrying into the ''Butlins'' family.Sir Billy Butlins was a circus and holiday camp enterpreneur, and clearly had given Hinde work assignements,in his earlier days as a photographer.
John Hinde worked all over the world and, tended to cover many subjects, though seaside scenes were often his speciality.
Ascertaining this postcard's source, came about through swapping post comments with Richard Grinell,at zodiacciphers.com ,and an acknowledgement of Richard's assistance, should be made clear.
Going back to 2010,the Celebrity Cypher made its debut on the internet. This, with thanks to the investigator,Lyndon Lafferty, who made it available, following a visit to the Vallejo Police, who held a copy. The original is held by the FBI,and categorized, under ''Archive Extortion''.

With reference to the plain side of the picture postcard ''Sandy Beaches'',as presented by Ricardo,at his '' mk-zodiac '' site :
One detail that has been covered over,by displaying the postage stamp employed, are the words ''Printed in Ireland''.
After further research,it appears that most John Hinde postcards, depicting California scenes, were distributed by ''Mitlock Publishers Inc'' of North Hollywood. And,this information would be printed on the postcard plain sides, also.
Since the ''Sandy Beaches'' postcard did ''not'' contain the distribution information,then....
The likelihood is,that the ''Sandy Beaches'' postcard was actually purchased...in Ireland.
What extra information, might this reveal ?
Although we are aware that, the Celebrity Cypher postcard was mailed in Oakland,California...and therefore USA mainland, its beginnings started across the Atlantic, with Ireland being a favoured place.
Where precisely ?
On a probability basis,Dublin Airport....since the postcard's subject matter,was of a ''foreign'' destination [California,USA].
In 1990,although there were non-stop long haul flights, across the Atlantic, such as London-San Francisco, air journeys from Western Europe to the USA cities, were more usually,on the basis,of flying to Newark Airport,New Jersey...the ''gateway'' to USA mainland....then picking up a connecting flight,to the specific USA city, required.
So,the likelihood is that, whoever created the 1990 Celebrity Cypher, first flew from Dublin Airport to Newark Airport,to be in a position to use an Oakland mail box,at some point in his overall travels.
Does this mean that the likelihood is,that the [presumed] Zodiac, started his journey from Dublin,Ireland ?
Well,not quite....but...
On the basis of examining air routes,in terms of economies of fulfilling ''full plane loads of passengers'',then :
The likelihood is,that the [presumed] Zodiac, had started his journey, from one of the following cities :
i] Dublin,Ireland
ii] Manchester,England
iii] Glasgow,Scotland
iv] Aberdeen,Scotland
Realistically...''not'' that much to go on...''but'',the simple information of the ''Sandy Beaches'' postcard, more than likely, having been purchased in Ireland, certainly opens up possibilities,if not probabilities on ''from whence the Zodiac came'',in 1990.
The Zodiac, after all,has tended to be perceived as ''A travelling man''.

Just confirmed,to-day,by the Zodiac contributor ''buyerninety'',that the ''Sandy Beach'' depicted in the picture postcard, employed for the 1990 Celebrity Cypher,is located at Carmel,CA.
''Carmel'',of course, being the name of a ''theatrical'' piece of gadgetry, masquerading as a computer,in the Zodiac TV series, financed by The Hearst Corporation.

A nice gesture from you,Zamantha,to post the photograph, spotted by Ms.Betts.
How strange that this photograph has been taken, just a few yards away, from where John Hinde captured the one,for the ''Sandy Beaches'' picture postcard [?].
The pine ''double sapling'' then in [circa] 1988,has grown into a fairly mature tree, now, thirty years later.
Having travelled extensively around England's ''West Country'',from where, incidentally,John Hinde originated....pine trees planted along the coastlines, are quite a common feature. The trees never appear overly healthy,in this sort of environment....put somehow eek out a happy existence. It is,I was to learn,a practice going back two hundred years,or so.Pine trees tend to root in well, and extensively, and have been chosen to assist the combatting of coastal erosion.

I see now, elsewhere Zamantha, that you refer to these trees,as Montery Cypresses...which is interesting.
Apparently, there are 15 species of Cypress Pines, which are all native to Australasia.
And,excel in arid desert-like environments.

In assesing '' Carmel-by-the-sea '',whose beach is depicted,in a photograph,on the front of the 1990 Celebrity Cypher postcard,we are looking at an exclusive residence of less than 4,000 population. It is considered an ''up market'' place of beauty, and receives frequent day visitors, from the San Francisco vicinity, and holiday tourists, from further afield, furnished by Monterey Airport, less than 15 miles away.
Facilities include an expansive beach, picturesque walks,a bird sanctuary and Arts and Crafts displays.
Notable residents have included Clint Eastwood,Doris Day,Joan Fontaine and Nobel prize scientist,Marie Curie. Also, writers,Jack London,Robert Louis Stevenson and James Ellroy.
Right up the Zodiac's ''alley'',for attraction, one might think [?]....and therefore ''recognition'',if it was the Zodiac who purchased and mailed the postcard.
A case, perhaps,of the Zodiac mailing it to the Vallejo Times Herald, from Oakland,on a visit of nostalgia [?]....twenty years on,and designed to give the pretence that he was now living in a ''veritable paradise'',not that far away.
''Menace'',the essence of extortion.
The ''proof'' of the card being authentic Zodiac, lying in the composition of the cipher's solution....and/or any positive forensics links, that can be gleaned.

The Pines Card link,to the Celebrity Cipher [?] --------------------------------------------------
Although officially ''unconfirmed'',there seems little likelihood of the ''peek through the pines'' card, being as anything other, than by the hand of the Zodiac.
On recent research,I have found that the graphics illustration, was by the hand of prolific graphics artist,Carlos Diniz [1928 - 2001],with his work that contributed to the ''Forest Pine''estate project at Incline Village,Lake Tahoe.
In examining the reasoning behind the Zodiac's decision to employ Diniz's illustration, there is compelling ''evidence'' that suggests that the card concerned the factual murder of Judith Hakari, than the unknown fate of Donna Lass.
The Zodiac ''visualizes'' himself, looking from the Sierra Sun Cloud Inn,at Colfax....to a half mile distance away, where Judith Hakari's body was recovered from a Shallow makeshift grave,on Ponderosa Way,Weimar. The Pines are ''Ponderosa Pines'',and it might be of further interest that, the building project at Incline Village,Lake Tahoe...''neighboured'' the Ponderosa Ranch theme park, which was a re-creation of the setting for the hugely popular TV series,''Bonanza''.And further, that the composition of Diniz's illustration, appears to be based on the ''real'' Ponderosa....a village,at high altitude,in the Sequoia National Park.
Ponderosa Pines,Ponderosa Way,Ponderosa Ranch,Lake Tahoe....and Ponderosa,Sequoia N.P.
When the Zodiac stated ''Peek through the Pines'',he was suggesting that we peek through the Ponderosa Pines....and when we now examine the photgraph of the 1990 Celebrity Cipher,we mind that the depiction, askes of us,that we should peek through the Monterey Cypress Pines,at Carmel Beach.
From Ponderosa Pines,in 1970.....to Monterey Cypress Pines,in 1990.
