Dave Toschi handcuffed my Dad at the Paul Stine crime scene.
On June 1 1971 our family set out for D land, from the midwest I was 12 ,after 2 days there and LA we went to SF.CA my parents wanted to see and photo the crime scenes , a cousin of mine ,asst. Editor at a paper wanted pics to post about Z.
We went to all the scenes ,on june 12 1971 saturday or maybe friday about 2pm at Wash & Cherry we sat there ,then Mom & I got out taking pics, til a teen from the very house yells "stop taking pictures of our house". As we were leaving a lt blue 64-65 chev malibu darts in blocking us, dad thinks they are trying to rob us ,and trys fleeing in reverse, 2 guys late 30s with police IDs around neck , the main guy was Toschi ,he asked what are you doing here ,sees we are 1600 miles from home , Toschi says something like "we should sell tickets"to his partner . we had to wait our turn to park there ,2 other cars doing the same thing we were. Dad is out of the 70 impala being questioned by both , maybe Armstrong too for 5 min they weren't very friendly , since Mom knew of Toschi I think she tried to get a pic on our 110 camera of it , they kicked him loose soon after as Dad got in, Dave slammed the door and tapped strongly with his wedding ring on the roof , pissed Dad off Guess what my dads name was...it wasn't!...Rick Was there a more famous real American detective ?

Sad news to hear of Inspector Toschi's passing.
When murder cases clock up a few years of remaining unsolved, the inevitable recriminations start to emerge.
With, more often than not,the blame focusing on those assigned to solve the case.
By 1978,the Paul Stine murder was nine years old.
We will probably never know the politics involved, between the SFPD and the FBI,and whether it impeded the solving of the case.
But,it appears that Dave Toschi became a ''fall guy''.Self penned fan mail was dug up,from two years prior, and Toschi's contributions to the Stine case was over.
Dave Toschi, will always be remembered as playing an integral part,in the rich tapestry of the Zodiac Killer case.
Alongside Sherwood Morrill,Paul Avery,Ken Narlow,Lyndon Lafferty and Robert Graysmith,he numbers a small elite of those that gave genuine passion and commitment to finding a solution.
Farewell.

One more death of a first hand witness, or in this instance, the most famous of all them that were tasked with catching Zodiac.
With each passing away (Slover, Slaight, Narlow, many others and now Dave Toschi), this case gets one step closer to being insoluble
