To-day, February 28th 2022, 49 year old Iain Packer was formally charged with murder, abduction and rape of Emma Caldwell, at Glasgow Sheriff's Court. A potentially pivotal moment in the 17 year old murder case, with a murder re-investigation, now 7 years on.
Zodiac case followers, may now wish to focus on the case reviews that appear to remain outstanding, originating from a meeting between then FBI Director James Comey and then Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland, in December 2014 : The Templeton Woods murders of March 1979 & February 1980 (Carol Lannen & Elizabeth McCabe) - and the disappearance and murder of Joan Webster, in November 1981. Dundee, UK, and Boston, MA, respectively.

Iain Packer appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court again, and now faces a total of 38 charges, including the abduction and murder of Emma Caldwell. The other charges concern rape and sexual assault of other sex workers, including Ms Caldwell. It has yet to be ascertained whether Packer is considered to have sexually assaulted Emma, at the time he is charged with having murdered her.
Iain Packer was denied bail, and is held on remand.

New trial date for the murder of Brenda Page.

The trial of Kit Harrisson, charged with the murder of Brenda Page on July 14th 1978, has been discharged after Mr Harrisson's defence advocate withdrew from representing him, owing to a client-counsel relationship breakdown.
A new trial date is expected to be established on September 2nd.
Brenda's murder re-investigation was announced in February 2015, and is seen as having been deemed a Zodiac outlier case, in view of her murder having taken place 5 days before the Zodiac's ''Scotch Tape'' letter of July 19th 1978. A typed letter sent to the SF Chronicle from Los Angeles, inferring a Scottish murder.
The ''Scotch Tape'' letter first found public knowledge, with the publishing of Robert Graysmith's ''Zodiac Unmasked'', in 2002.

A new trial date, for the murder of Brenda Page (July 14th 1978), has now been established as February 20th 2023.
81 year old Christopher Harrisson, and Brenda's then ex-husband, will stand trial at the High Court in Aberdeen.
A preliminary hearing will take place in Edinburgh on January 20th 2023.
The trial is expected to last three weeks.

Yesterday at Inverness High Court, 80 year old William MacDowell was found guilty of the murders of his lover Renee MacRae and 3 year old son Andrew, on November 12th 1976, near Inverness UK. Renee MacRae's burnt out BMW car was found abandoned, but the bodies of her and her son have never been recovered.
MacDowell was handed a life sentence, with a minimum 30 year term of imprisonment.
Although the Crown Office will not be making any admissions at this time, the case of Renee & Andrew MacRae is seen as a pattern outlier of the Zodiac Killer case, related to perceived work residences, including Aberdeen UK in 1978 (Brenda Page) and Glasgow UK in 2005 (Emma Caldwell).

Yesterday December 13th 2022, Iain Packer appeared at the Sheriff's Court in Glasgow to formally plead ''not guilty'' to a charge of murder of Emma Caldwell in April 2005.
Mr Packer is facing a total of 46 charges involving the subjection of 27 women to physical and sexual abuse over 26 years.
Judge Lord Beckett set a trial date for 13 months time, to take place at Glasgow High Court. The trial is expected to last 11 weeks.
The previous day December 12th 2022, in Washington D.C., saw the charging of Libyan suspected terrorist known as ''Musoud'' or ''Musud'' with involvement in the Pan Am Lockerbie bombing over the skies of Scotland, December 21st 1988. A terrorist atrocity that accounted for 270 lives lost, including 190 American citizens and 43 of British nationality.
Work by Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland in December 2014 initiated further investigations into these crimes, as well as the murders of Renee and Andrew MacRae in November 1976, and that of Brenda Page in July 1978.

Today at Aberdeen High Court, and after nearly 3 weeks of trial, 82 year old Kit Harrisson was found guilty of the murder of Dr Brenda Page, on July 14th 1978, Allan Street, Aberdeen Scotland UK. The jury took less than 3 hours to arrive at this verdict.
Incriminating evidence included paint flecks inside Mr Harrisson's car, matching paint from Brenda's flat. And, semen samples taken from Brenda's duvet cover providing a DNA match to Mr Harrisson's.
5 days following Brenda's murder, the (presumed) Zodiac sent the Scotch Tape letter (July 19th 1978), from Los Angeles to the SF Chronicle - as documented in Robert Graysmith's Zodiac Unmasked publication (2002).
Brenda Page's murder re-investigation had been announced on February 27th 2015. Three days later, Boston D.A. Jonathan Blodgett informed Eve Carson, sister-in-law to Zodiac outlier victim Joan Webster, that Joan's casefile had been farmed out to assist with murders from the same era. It took Eve's lawyers a further two years to establish where Joan's casefile had disappeared.

At the closing of Brenda Page's murder trial, Judge Lord Richardson stated that Mr Harrisson had carried out ''a premeditated, sustained and vicious attack''. He imposed a life sentence on Harrison, who will be eligible for parole when he is 102 years old.
