Well,well,well....in Zodiac's letter to the SF Chronicle,October 13th 1969,he wrote : ''I am the same man who DID in the people in the north bay area.''.
And,presumably, the same man who accused Claude Hubert of assassinating Bunchy Carter and John Huggins....as quoted,by : ''COON U - U 'DID' UCLA''.Just three weeks following that October 13th letter.
-------------------
In his book ''ZODIAC'',Robert Graysmith refers to a pretty young schoolteacher, who lived at Vacaville, near Vallejo, and started to become stalked and persecuted by the Zodiac.....as later assumed by police,on account of driving an identical motorcar,as owned by W.J.Grant,at that time.
This persecution, also involved phone calls and notes, left at the door of her flat.
Exerts : ''I'm pretty angry because your telephone DOESN'T ring at night.Bad things will happen if you DON'T let it ring.''
''It's hard to watch you and call when you have an unlisted number.I DON'T like that.''.
-----------------------
In a letter to the Vallejo Times-Herald,August 1st 1969,Zodiac wrote : ''If you DO not DO this I will go on a kill rampage Fry night.....''.
In a letter to the Vallejo Times-Herald,August 7th 1969,Zodiac wrote : ''.....are the police haveing a good time with the code ? If not, tell them to cheer up,when they DO crack it they will have me.''.
In a letter to the SF Chronicle,May 8th 1974,Zodiac wrote : ''Why DON'T you show some concern for public sensibilities....''.
And,with a reference to his presumed writings, around the time of the Cherie Jo Bates murder,in 1966,Zodiac expresses to the LA Times,on March 13th 1971 : ''I DO have to give them credit for stumbling across my riverside activity....''.
But,''we'' have only found the easy ones [?].
I would venture that, there are a hell of a lot more ''DO's and DON'T's'' out there.

'' Better '' late,than never [?]. ------------------------------------
In the Fairfield letter, dated December 16th 1969,a presumed Zodiac wrote : ''....You better print....''
In the Albany letter, dated August 1973,a presumed Zodiac wrote : ''....You had better hurry.....''
In a letter, dated circa June 1974,a presumed Zodiac wrote to Kimberly Lawrence : ''....You better let it ring on...''
Who is Kimberly Lawrence ?
Kimberly Lawrence was a schoolteacher, who claimed to have been stalked by a man, during the Spring and Summer of 1974.
She lived at Vacaville, near Fairfield,CA,and it became increasingly apparent to her, that this man would follow her around in his car, when she visited her boyfriend in Davis, and her parents, who lived at El Sobrante.
The Zodiac investigator,Lyndon Lafferty, was asked to look into her claim and, apart from information regarding the stalkers appearance, and his motorcar, acquired a letter sent from Sacramento,to Kimberly, around June of 1974.
The letter's contents :
'' I seen you on Silveyville at the house.I like you and follow you.You live in Vacaville.I watch you there and Dixon and Davis.I watch you alot.I like to watch you and call you dist.I get mad cause your telephone doesn't ring at night now.You better let it ring on.I get mad and bad things will happen.I tell you once.Let it ring or else. ''.
The handwriting, which was in a ''flamboyant'' style, was presented to experts, for an opinion on ''contrivance''.In essence, the extent of variation on a writer's natural style.
The opinion was returned to Lafferty,as ''Definitely contrived''.
At Christmas 1974,the sister of possible Zodiac victim,Donna Lass, received a Christmas card from an unknown person.Mary Piker's card contained the written words : '' Best Wishes St.Donna & Guardian of the Pines ''.The ''Pines'' reference suggests that the card may have been sent by the Zodiac.
Again, the handwriting was in flamboyant style....and extremely similar,in my opinion,to the handwriting employed in Kimberly Lawrence's letter.
Kimberly Lawrence's letter can be viewed on page 251,of Lyndon Lafferty's book ''The Silenced Badge''.The book is available for reading, online.
Did the same person, write correspondences to both Mary Piker and Kimberly Lawrence ?
Was that person,the Zodiac ?

The mystery of ''Fk'' solved. -----------------------------
Though officially unconfirmed,on October 5th 1970,the Zodiac mailed a ''cut and paste'' postcard.
The postcard has since come to be known as the ''13 Hole'' Card, and displays various newsprint, alluding to the number 13,and believed to indicate the Zodiac's claim of 13 victims,to date.
One section of newsprint, has been displayed upside down,in relation to the rest.
This ''upside down'' newsprint reads :
'' There are reports city police pig cops are closeing in on me.Fk I'm crackproof. What is the price tag now ? ''
There has been debate,in the past, with regard to the meaning of '' Fk '',as in '' Fk I'm crackproof.''.
The popular interpretation is,that '' Fk '' simply stands for the four letter profanity,'' F**k ''.
But,that would make the sentence a declaration of exclamation [ '' Fk I'm crackproof ! '' ].
So,perhaps '' Fk '' is something different [?].
I was looking for common usage of '' Fk '',as an abbreviated term, prior to the advent of the internet.
That which I unearthed,was : '' Fat kid '','' French kiss '',and....'' F**k knows ''.
What,it seems, that Zodiac actually meant was : '' F**k knows I'm crackproof.''.As in '' It would appear to be the case that I'm crackproof, though it is uncertain.''.
A tad more reserved,than '' F**k I'm crackproof !'' [?].
'' F**k knows '' holds precise definition,as '' It is unclear ''
Hence, '' F**k knows I'm crackproof.''.With the further uncertainty of '' What is the price tag now ? ''.
'' Fk '' = '' F**k knows ''.

In a previous post in this thread [June 6th 2018],I had made mention of a presumed Zodiac's propensity to use the word ''better'',as if to add immediacy to his impending threat.
In the Fairfield letter,of December 16th 1969 : '' ...you better print... ''
In the Albany letter,of August 1973 : '' ...you better hurry... ''
In Kimberly Lawrence's letter, circa June 1974 : ''...you better let it ring... ''
A further example found,is a letter sent to the Sacramento Bee newspaper, with postmark June 8th 1977.
This letter has come to be known as the ''Steve McQueen'' letter,on account of the actor,Steve McQueen, being one of thirty celebrities being put under threat of death,if the presumed Zodiac's demands, for [presumed] three redacted named prisoners, were not met.Specifically, that the three prisoners be released.
The presumed Zodiac adds :
'' If the people of America don't want any of the people [celebrities] dead, then you ''better'' carry out the demand.''
This letter appears to be presented,as if by someone with a political and social conscience. Some of the celebrities under threat, were prominent Democrat politicians, including Jimmy Carter.
A bit ''rich'',one might think, given that Zodiac's moral conscience was ''threadbare'',at best [?].More likely that,''Zodiac'' was showing off his social and political observations, and desiring to be part of the subversive culture,at that time [?].
I have found that,given Rubislaw 32's final solution to Zodiac's ''340'' cipher is correct,then....
The redacted names of the presumed prisoners to be released,by demand of ''Zodiac'',are :
GEORGE STINER
LARRY STINER
DONALD HAWKINS
These three men, were members of Ron Karenga's ''Organization US'' Black Power group, who were adjudged the three decoy men, employed by COINTELPRO,to create a diversion,to facilitate ex-FBI agent,Claude Hubert's ability to assassinate Black Panther Leaders,Bunchy Carter and John Huggins,at UCLA Campbell Hall,on January 17th 1969.
All three men,George and Larry Stiner, and Donald Hawkins, were brought to justice, and found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder. Each receiving a life custodial sentence.
Now,given that ''Zodiac'' knew that the ''Steve McQueen'' letter, would end up in the FBI's hands,it is not difficult to surmise that the letter was designed to embarrass the FBI.The inference being, that ''Zodiac'' was close to 100% in reasoning that the FBI played a part,in the assassinations of Bunchy Carter and John Huggins.
But,here's ''the thing'' :
On March 30th 1974,George and Larry Stiner escaped from San Quentin prison, and had been on the run,for three years,by the time the Sacramento Bee,and subsequently the FBI,received the threatening letter, from a presumed Zodiac.
A ''hilarious'' irony, perhaps [?].That being, that the FBI would have been scratching their heads, thinking : ''Where has this guy [Zodiac],been ?''.
If,as I confidently predict, that the redacted names in the ''Steve McQueen'' letter, are George and Larry Stiner, and Donald Hawkins, then :
The FBI would have concluded that, given ''Zodiac'' was writer of the letter, and threat maker, then he would have been unaware of two of the three prisoner's escape, three years earlier.
Was Zodiac ''out of state'',between 1974 and 1977 ?
Was Zodiac,simply,somewhere else in the world,between 1974 and 1977 ?
A case of Zodiac demanding the release,of two men, that had already ''flown the nest'' [?].

The strange case of the ''two'' Zodiacs ----------------------------------------------
In April 1978,a still confirmed letter, from the Zodiac Killer, started :
''This is the Zodiac speaking,I am in control of all things''
And,signed off,with :
''Yours Truly''
In July 1978,though unconfirmed,a typed letter from the Zodiac Killer, started :
''I am the Zodiac, and I am in control''
And,signed off identically,with :
''I am the Zodiac, and I am in control''
In October 1987,though unauthenticated,a letter from the Zodiac Killer, started :
''This is the Zodiac speaking,I am crackproof''
And signed off,with :
''Yours Truly''
Some distinctive similarities,there ?
Not least, that ''Yours Truly'' appears to be plagiarised from Jack the Ripper's ''Dear Boss'' letter, signing off with the same ''Yours Truly''.
-----------------
Though touted as being from June 1990,the New York Police Department received a cipher card, from the Zodiac Killer. Now known as the ''Flag'' cipher,on account of its symbols resembling ''bunting'',I have found it not difficult to decipher, given also an accompanying alphabetic allocation.
With two apparent spelling errors, corrected, the ''Flag'' cipher solution, appears to be :
THIS IS THE ZODIAC SPEAKING
I AM IN CONTROL
WHO MASTERS BE READY FOR MORE
YOURS TRULY
-----------------------------
When publishing the ''Flag'' cipher, the FBI seemed to give out ''mixed messages'',with regard to its author.
In effect, the ''New York Zodiac'' or the ''Bay Area Zodiac''
The New York Zodiac,Heriberto Seda, was not known to be a cipher maker.Though he was a fan of both the Bay Area Zodiac [naturally],and Robert Graysmith's first Zodiac book.
Heriberto Seda, posing as a layman preacher, preyed on the Homeless.Between 1990 and 1993,he murdered three people, and attempted to murder five others.
He was arrested in 1996,and convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment,in 1998.
-------------------------
Since the ''flag'' cipher card makes inaccurate references to Seda's crimes, including inaccurate dates, the cipher card does not appear to be from Seda.
Though the claim of three dead is made,it is ''overscored'' by a number one.As if someone else desires to,both take credit for Seda's murders....and bait the New York Police Department.....as follows :
NYPD - 0,[Cross hair symbol] - 1
In addition,at the bottom of the card, the author has written :
''Sleep my little Dead how we loathe them''
This an adaptation of a quote from Edgar Allan Poe,of whom the [Bay Area] Zodiac Killer was clearly a fan.
The ''Flag'' cipher, almost certainly derives from the mid 1990's,at the earliest, when Seda was already in custody, and more started to become learned, regarding his crimes.
The FBI may not have the forensic evidence,to link the card to the [Bay Area] Zodiac Killer, but I would suggest that, they know only too well, that the author was NOT Heriberto Seda, the New York Zodiac.
For the extra kudos, did the ''real'' Zodiac Killer attempt to ''muscle in'' on Seda's ''action'',and ''steal'' some of Seda's crimes.
A case of one Zodiac copying another Zodiac, who was copying the first Zodiac [?].
It certainly looks,like it.
THIS IS THE ZODIAC SPEAKING I AM IN CONTROL WHO MASTERS BE READY FOR MORE YOURS TRULY

The notion that the Zodiac was a fan of portmanteaus has long been observed .
'' portmanteau '' - from the French words ,'' porter '',meaning '' to carry '' , and '' manteau '' , meaning '' cloak ''....it is the playful art of putting two words together ,in order to derive a third word of '' telegraphed '' novel meaning .
Administrator at this site , Ricardo Gomez , has discussed this in relation to the Zodiac ,at his mk-zodiac.com site ,and highlights two words in particular , thought to have been created by the Zodiac , himself :
'' Cerous '' - which combines '' curious '' and '' serious ''
'' cid '' - which combines '' child '' and '' kid ''
The ''father '' of the art of portmanteaus is acknowledged to be the writer and mathematician , Lewis Carroll , who introduced portmanteaus in his series of '' Alice '' books.
But the recognised '' master '' of portmanteaus is the Irish writer , James Joyce who ,even created portmanteaus as an integral part of two of his substantial works ,in particular :
'' Ulysses '' and '' Finnegan's Wake ''
'' Finnegan's Wake '' includes what are now known in the English Language ,as '' Thunderclaps ''...huge portmanteaus ,consisting of as many as 100 alphabetic letters .
And ,it is in '' Finnegan's Wake '' that other phonetically related constructions are also to be found . This includes '' Goo goo g'joob '',which is James Joyce's interpretation of the sound that a Walrus makes .
Familiar to some ? Yes , '' Goo goo g'joob '' was adopted by John Lennon who , penned the Beatles song , '' I am the Walrus '', and employed '' Goo goo g'joob '' as part of the chorus to that song .
Readers might note Rubislaw 32's solution to '' The San Jose Cryptogram '',at this site and in this Ciphers section .A cryptogram believed to have been mailed on November 21st 1969 ,to the FBI's Butte Office ,Montana . Of only six characters in length ,it may well be a dig at the FBI ,and refer to the '' I am a Walrus song ''.
Goo goo g'joob .

Well....let's just spell the little joke out ,here and now ( ? ).
The clue that a ''joke'' was in store for the FBI was ,that the Zodiac had sent his six character cryptogram to the FBI's office in Butte ,Montana .
And ,the FBI were to become the '' Butte '' of the joke .
The cryptogram ,as solved :
'' O I F B I O ''
As interpreted :
'' O - 1 , FBI - O ''
As such :
'' Eggman - 1 , Eggmen - O ''
And,as the fullness of the joke :
'' The Zodiac - 1 , '' Men with egg on their faces '' - nil ''
Yes....The Zodiac had elected to become John Lennon's '' Eggman '' , and assign the tag of '' Eggmen '' to the FBI ...who were the '' Butte '' of the joke .
Lennon wasn't actually the '' Eggman '' though he claimed to be ,in the song '' I am the Walrus ''. Some believe that Lennon had based this name on Lewis Carroll's '' Humpty Dumpty '' character .But,the reality appears to have been Eric Burdon ,of '' Eric Burdon and the Animals '' fame .Burdon was known ,in limited social circles , for having a fetishization about eggs ,combined with lewd acts performed by consenting naked women.
And The Walrus ?
Well...in the 1968 released Beatles album ,known as '' The White Album '',there contained a song called '' Glass Onion '' .The lyrics included the line : '' Here's another clue for you all - The Walrus was Paul ''
But,there are certainly indications in the lyrics of '' I am The Walrus '' ,that Lennon always intended that '' The Eggmen '' were the FBI , and it seems that this perception had inspired the Zodiac to create the San Jose Cryptogram ,as much as anything else.
|
|
|
Post by Rubislaw32 on Jan 7, 2020 8:57:09 GMT -8
So....with reference to the San Jose Cryptogram , '' we have it '' ( ? ).
An analysis of Lennon's lyrical clues , tells us :
i) The Eggman was Lennon , pretending to be Eric Burdon .
ii) The Eggmen were '' City Policemen '' as stated .
iii) The Walrus was Paul McCartney .
And,in The Zodiac's adaptation of '' I am the Walrus '' :
i) The Eggman was The Zodiac .
ii) The Eggmen were the FBI .
iii) The Walrus was Paul ( Avery ? ).
When the song '' I am the Walrus '' was released ,journalist had enthusiasm to ask Lennon about his strange and cryptic lyrics . Lennon apparently told his publicist to tell those journalists to '' Go figure it out for themselves '' .
Just as an illusionist is not inclined to give away their '' magic '' secrets ,so other artists remain similarly reticent about their creations .
Why spoil the illusion ( ? ) ,for it diminishes the '' art ''.
Hopefully , the Zodiac's '' adaptation '' will be confirmed , when we hear from him , himself .

A new alphabet for the Zodiac ?
1967 saw the first marketing of hand-held '' Pocket Calculators '' , by the company '' Texas Instruments '' . Expensive initially , and normally only seen in offices , their price dropped dramatically in the next 4 years , with keen competition and mass marketing .
A pocket calculator could display any of the ten digits , 0 - 9 , and a decimal point .
A newly seen novelty was , when viewing the calculator's screen upside-down . It became apparent that there was a usable , albeit limited alphabet available .
Available alphabet :
0 = O 1 = I 2 = Z 3 = E 4 = h 5 = S 6 = g 7 = L 8 = B 9 = b
Is it possible that the Zodiac utilised this alphabet , for coding purposes ?
Well , if we take a word , such as '' TEEN '' , displayed in his Halloween Card to Paul Avery then , through fundamental positional substitution , '' TEEN '' converts to :
20 5 5 14
And , if we then punch '' 20 5 5 14 '' into a pocket calculator , the following emerges when viewed upside-down :
'' H I S S O Z ''
'' His , so Z '' ( ? ) , as a reference to '' Four Teens ''.
'' Four Teens '' ? Well, there was , at that October 1970 time , 4 teenagers claimed as victims by the Zodiac :
David Faraday ; Betty Lou Jensen ; Kathy Snoozy and Deborah Furlong .
As the Zodiac contributor , Richard Grinell , has pointed out , perhaps it is the case that the Zodiac was pushing on '' dishonest credit '' for the murders of Kathy Snoozy and Deborah Furlong , at that October 1970 time .

Countdown to the Zodiac's typed letter to the San Francisco Chronicle , July 19th 1978 . And , the '' Double Scottish '' clew .
In 2002 , with the publication of Robert Graysmith's '' Zodiac Unmasked '' , Graysmith alludes to a purported Zodiac correspondence ( Pages 189/190 ) sent to the SF Chronicle on July 19th 1978 . This was just five days following the brutal murder of Dr.Brenda Page , a Genetics scientist and moonlighting escort , in Aberdeen Scotland . In addition , the wake of Detective Inspector Dave Toschi's fall from public grace , on account of having been found to have written fan-mail letters to himself .
The letter contained three consecutive sentences :
'' But maybe you play chess with me . I have several cheap sets in closets all over . I have my name on the bottom of the lid with the scotch tape .''
Countdown to the (presumed) Zodiac's July 19th 1978 letter :
April 24th 1978 : A letter from the Zodiac , includes : '' That city pig Toschi is good , but I am smarter and better . He will get tired and leave me alone .''
Monday July 10th 1978 : Following an admission by Dave Toschi that he sent fan-mail collected , to a journalist , that was actually by his own hand and singing his own praises , Toschi begins a re-assignment to Pawn shop detail , from Homicide . A demotion , as such , from his employers the SFPD .
Friday July 14th 1978 : Dr.Brenda Page , is brutally bludgeoned to death , as she returns to her flat in Aberdeen , by an intruder having lain in wait for her return from a dinner appointment , with two businessmen , at a local hotel .
Saturday July 15th 1978 : The New York times reports the turn of events for the beleaguered San Francisco Inspector Toschi . They add that Toschi , however , has denied any responsibility for the April 24th 1978 letter from the Zodiac .
Wednesday July 19th 1978 : The presumed Zodiac mails his typed letter .
In examining the three consecutive sentences contained in the July 19th 1978 typed letter , the first two sentences become quite easy to decipher :
i ) '' But maybe you play chess with me ? '' - A mischievous dig at Toschi , from the Zodiac , of a possible '' pawn play '' that could ensue between them .
ii) '' I have several cheap sets in closets all over .'' - A further mischievous dig at Toschi , from the Zodiac , that Toschi might find his way back into Zodiac investigations , if Toschi were to find ladies costume jewellery ( cheap sets ) , stolen from victims that might have Zodiac associations . And , that the Zodiac infers that his collection is plentiful , on account of the quantity of victims , for which he , the Zodiac , might be claiming .
But , what of ( iii ) , '' I have my name on the bottom of the lid with the scotch tape .'' ?
At the bottom of the lid of a tin of scotch tape , retailing at that time , gave the details of the manufactures of the scotch tape , including place - St.Paul , Minnesota , U.S.A. . By far and away historically , the most famous son of St.Paul , Minnesota , is the novelist and essayist F.Scott.Fitzgerald who , is best known for his novel '' The Great Gatsby ''. Of F.Scott.Fitzgerald's four novels published in his lifetime , his first is '' This side of Paradise '' .
F.Scott.Fitzgerald ( September 24th 1896 - December 21st 1940 ) , was given the full birth name : '' Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald ''
So , and as indicated , the Zodiac refers to St.Paul , Minnesota , whose most famous son has the middle names '' Scott Key '' .
'' Scotch Tape '' and '' Scott Key '' ? Surely a '' Double Clew '' to which the Zodiac refers , and a letter coming just five days following the high-profile murder of a scientist , from Aberdeen Scotland .
On March 19th 2020 , police swooped and arrested 79 year old Kit Harrison for the murder of Brenda Page , on July 14th 1978 . Harrison was Brenda's ex-husband .
This had followed a 5 year murder re-investigation by Police Scotland , on the orders of the Crown Office . The '' request '' by the Crown Office had been made on February 27th 2015 , and 8 days within a period for which senior officers of Police Scotland have been adjudged to have been monitoring e-mails , illegally .
For what had senior officers been so interested , that they recklessly broke the law , to find out ? Certainly e-mails regarding cold cases under review , and the case of Dr.Brenda Page among them .
Was Brenda Page's murder , one for which the Zodiac falsely claimed ?

Hi Rubislaw32,
I wanted to run something past you that I came across while looking into a suspect and on reading the Zodiacciphers site a thought occurred regarding Zodiac's Button letter and how many times he went on about his buttons, then we get the little list and later the exorcist letter tit willow tit willow.
I had come across Buttonwillow just outside of Bakersfield, California which is also where Paul Avery studied. The interesting points are that Buttonwillow was named after the Native American Button bush where the Yokut Indians used it as a meeting place to hunt. Buttonwillow is also a Motel Hub for members of the Sports Car Club of America holding events at the Buttonwillow Raceway Park. A super 8 and Motel 6 and the Homeland Inn are some of the Motels to note.
The town is also known for hosting the Best in the West jet rally, an annual gathering of model jet enthusiasts.
I looked into the history of the place as well as Bakersfield and it appears there was a Car Club there since the late 40's early 50's as well as homosexual activities between young men and older high powered men in the town, even some murders taking place. I also searched to see if any bombs had gone off in that area and did find an armoury and gunnery site which is nearby I think it's Edwards Air Force Base. I also think Buttonwillow has ties to Pine Mountain Club which is like a private community, have to have a lot of money to live there.
Do you think there's a relevance to it at all? I know so much duality and wordplay goes on with Zodiac and would appreciate your advice as I had thought of doing a piece on it.
Many Thanks

Nice spot on the town of '' Buttonwillow '' , Ninecrows333 . And , a few interesting links there . Not least where Paul Avery studied - and alongside Don Cheney I might add . It is beginning to look more and more persuasive that Avery and Cheney were in partnership to present Arthur Leigh Allen as a viable Zodiac suspect to the police .Avery's idea who then facilitated newspaper monies for Cheney , in return for being the one to approach LE about ALA . Paul Avery and ALA were born just a few months apart , in Honolulu , Hawaii , and were educated at the same Elementary school .
It was the Zodiac who referred to '' Buttons '' , but '' Badges '' may have been a more appropriate term ( ? ) . In addition , the Zodiac referred to '' Ciphers '' when '' Cryptograms '' was a more accurate term .
We seem to see this '' slightly off centre '' or accuracy , with the Zodiac , as an observation quite regularly . How much of it was deliberate ( ? ) , is a good question .
With clues for the Zodiac's Bomb cipher , the Zodiac states : '' Radians , and inches along the radians '' . But looking again , this could be :
'' Radeons , and finches along the radeons '' = '' Birds along the wire '' = '' Bunting '' .
Bunting is considered '' Pure Decoration '' - and therefore , that clue is likely to be a '' Telegraphed Red Herring '' .

Thanks Obstacleisagiven, like you I think Avery had more to do with this somehow, I don't know much about Cheney but will look into him more. I keep going back to Bakersfield, the reason I got to find out about the Bakersfield college was through my research on Joseph James DeAngelo, he had a friend called Jerry Schneider who was a little older than JJD and I had came across him in the Raconteur Book but can't be sure it's the same Jerry Schneider as he seems a bit older but what was weird was coming across Paul Avery and thought that Zodiac could have known Avery from that time.
There are several weird connections to the college as they had a slave sale where the girls would be sold off like slaves and have to do the boy's bidding for the day and they also reversed the roles, some kind of fundraiser. Big Red were also what the Basket or Football Team's name was and had a motto of Big Red "Get Mad" I checked out several names etc but never found anything more but may try some searches again
Funny you mention Birds on a Wire as out by Buttonwillow & Bakersfield there is a large electrical substation next to the town that is a part of a major north–south transmission corridor. It marks the northern end of Path 26 across the Transverse Ranges and the southern end of the Path 15 power lines.

Yes...with any keen followers of the case , I believe that we just all want to see a judicial resolution of sorts , But historically , Avery's participations does appear to be more '' murkier '' on examination , the more one looks . One could put it down to his passion of involvement and desire to be there , with the '' big boys '' ( LE ) solving the case ( ? ) . But there was always going to be a limit to his accommodation in the LE's inner sanctum . After Avery's euphoria of being the one to receive the Zodiac's Halloween Card , it seems he allowed aspects of the case to go to his head .
Within a fortnight of the world-wide exposure of the Halloween Card , Avery received the ( hoaxed ? ) Phil Sins letter , that looks to have been set up by Riverside P.D. and Vallejo P.D. , in order for Avery to become the patsy to publish knowledge of the murder-related correspondences related to the Cher Jo Bates case . This knowledge had previously been kept from both the FBI and CA DOJ - to great embarrassment behind the scenes in LE circles .
Paul Avery would have realized this , shortly after learning that LE held a summit , at the CA DOJ's request , to sort out their communications problems . Avery would never be the same force in the case again , simply relegated to an odd newspaper article , as a regular reporter with no outstanding insights to further developments . Law Enforcement had , in effect , put Avery in his place .

Yeah I was surprised that Avery's career seemed to have taken a dive after his involvement with the Zodiac, when I did a search for him I expected to find much more to his name and work but by all accounts he appears to have lead a pretty quiet simple life, am I right in thinking he returned to Hawaii to live with his wife. I guess he had to have been looking over his shoulder after the halloween card and no doubt that would have affected him.
Great news on the Emma Caldwell case I see, hopefully they put the right man behind bars and her family can rest.
