Pursuant to our conversation the other day it is easy to tell if the person,(zodiac?), you are talking to is telling the truth or is lying. After a question is asked any movement whether obvious or not means something. The eyes are the best.I shifted my paragraph so I could write more. There are many psychological tricks that you can use to get into the mind of the person to whom you are talking. The best observer is one who notices the very first movement and I mean the very first one. This is usually done in one tenth of a second after you have asked the person the last question. If the person stops and changes his mind that is a dead giveaway that something is wrong. The lie detector machine is good but it only measures the physical variations and is best done in conjunction with a one on one combination with the subject. It should be remembered that the DNA tests on Leigh Allen were OK the first time and not the second time. I'll go deeper into the subject the next time I write on this website. I just wish that we could have tested the Marshall suspect because he looked very suspicious to me especially since he was connected to the Radio Keith Orpheum movie theater. Greysmith should have leaned a little heavier on Marshall and not so heavy on some of the others.I have a lot more to discuss in future paragraphs and am looking forward to more possible subjects, (including Ralph Spinnelli).

Hello Daryll,and welcome.
This sounds all very interesting.''I just wish that we could have tested the Marshall suspect..'' [?].Do you come in some professional capacity, past or present ?
I certainly would not wish to dispute your claim on spotting truths or lies, but psychopaths can be the most accomplished of deceivers.
And when psychopaths are in ''Reptilian'' mode, theirs eyes can be as lifeless as a shark's - surely difficult to read [?].
Look forward to more comments and posts, from you - sincerely.

Yes,very amusing ''second guessed''[?].Humor should not be discounted,as a means of keeping discussions reasonably light [?].
But we already have a ''court jester'' in residence - who is also serious in his attempts to uncover the truth.
Perhaps we should leave the floor open for Daryll,to expound further [?].
Over to you,Daryll [?].

Lets profile the Zodiac the best we can. His problem lies in the connection between violence and love, probably stemming from his childhood with his mother. Violence and love are hopelessly intertwined and cannot be changed. This man was doomed from the beginning as far as getting along with the opposite sex and anybody else for that matter. I don't think this is a case of dual or multiple personalities but just a conditioning from childhood. He is angered when he sees a normal couple making out be-cause he cannot follow suit due to his own conditioning. This stirs up the (GABA)acid, gamma amino butric acid in the brain which starts an anger spell which eventually leads to a murder. (GABA) is the major neuro-transmitter in the brain for the neurons to communicate through. The more agitated they become the more upset we get. This is the cause of anxiety attacks in most other people. This is a form of mental illness that can never be cured. It can be controlled with benzodiazapines but it will occur again and again. Usually starts in a person's twenties and lasts a very long time. The other symptoms that the Zodiac has are those that the "regular" introvert has. It should be remembered that he does not have a split personality - just a mal formed and twisted one. I'm running out of time so I'll comment more next time.

Some fascinating insights from Daryll. Please do give us some more observations.
With regard to your second post [Nov 16],does Zodiac's [in your opinion] childhood problems, run more along the lines of the Oedipus syndrome,or did it involve both parents ? For example, love [the carrot] from his mother, and corporal punishment [the stick],from the father figure [?].
Also, this inability to comprehend the ''requirements'' for mutual love and harmony with a partner - did Zodiac have,as a presumed young man, have potential abilities to change ?
I think that, all too often,we place Zodiac in a time zone [1968-1974] - overlooking the [obvious] fact that he grew older and developed - possibly becoming wiser and more confident in himself,as a real person [?].This may well have included personal relationships and indeed, creating a family.Sometimes individuals can ''re-invent'' themselves by,for example, moving to another country and adopting another culture.Initially, they arrive as a ''classless''person, with few preconceived notions from those which they now elect to co-exist.A chance to,at least, disguise their psychological ''baggage'' [?].
The ''anxiety attacks'' reference certainly rings a bell with me,with regard to a particular suspect.Look forward to more insights from you,Daryll.

With the events which happened this past week we should have had our brains exercised towards more creative writing. But back to the Zodiac and his life such as it was. It is quite possible that he had two levels of personality in a sense that each didn't know what the other was doing and couldn't remember what the other had done. When he was on the morning television show he, Leigh Allen, always had more or less of a confused look. If such is the case then there would be no correct record of killings compiled because you wouldn't know which person was doing the reporting. Not only that, if there were more personalities in that brain of his it would only add to the confusion of compiling a total for a given amount of time. Also sometimes the urge to kill seems to drop off or fade away after a person gets older, usually in their 30's or 40's, which makes the going even rougher when you are trying to get a handle on the body count. The human mind is a very complex organ and if you are trying to analyze it while it is constantly changing it makes it nearly impossible to get an accurate assessment of what it is doing for a given amount of time. Allen's notes to the police and newspapers were unstable to say the least. A good movie to watch about split or different personalities was the movie The Three Faces of Eve from 1957 starring Paul Newman and Joanne (sp) Woodward. She had three distinct personalities Eve black,Eve white and Eve normal. It was a story about a Georgia housewife and it was a true story. DARYLL LATHERS

Hi again,Daryll
So you are the chap that proposed a solution to the ''340'',a couple of years back ? Good effort - but of course,as you are probably only too aware, peoples' reactions will be mixed if a solution isn't ''one to one'' [?].But who is really to say that you are incorrect [?].
My instinct is that Zodiac messed up on that one - so ''anagramic'' may be the means of solving it [?].I will have another go at it,when I can get a week,undisturbed...lots of tea and ''Embassy'' filter tips - plus Peter Green's ''Green Manalishi with a two pronged crown'' playing continuously [!].
Very interested on your Dec 7th post.''Allen'' is certainly a suspect, that never really goes away [?].So,you have him down as someone with split personalities [?].He struck me as a capable and ''functioning'' loner. When one sees him in front of camera, there is more than a little ''theater'' about him - which I didn't expect.Perhaps it is because of the ''fuss'' that people were making - that he suddenly found himself at the center of attention [?].
Allen had the ''balls'' to take care of himself, but I reserve judgement on his ability to be a ''boss'' - or indeed, was actually capable of such nefarious acts [?].But if we are to go down the route of the ''dare club'' scenario, then one could always see Allen as a willing accomplice [?].
Someone, other than Allen, was the architect of both the letters and the deeds.
I,for one,am certainly interested to hear more from you,Daryll.

Hello friends, Today were going to talk about different personalities of the Zodiac case. Were also going to talk about Thermetic Apperception (sp?) . This occurs when a psychiatrist proposes to his or her patient a narrative and then tells the patient to finish the narrative. Based on what the patient says he can get inside the patient's mind and analyze the patient. This was first in traduced in the 1930's (while Freud was still alive). It's still used today. I think its better than the ink blot test by far. Donald Foukes would be a good candidate for this test as it seems he might have talked to the Zodiac while on duty the night Stein was killed. I think that was the night. He gave two reports that conflicted. On the list throw Richard Hoffman too. He was the first one on the scene at Blue Rock Springs. He seemed too calm for seeing such a horrific event, much too calm. One person that we don't hear much about is Richard Crabtree. Throw him in too but I don't think would show much. He was at the house painting party - the one that the Zodiac author said Hoffman was at - but he denied. The way he denied being there or just the fact that the author mentioned it could be a psychological trap to see how he would react. Shrinks do that you know! One or two traps can be entered in a sentence or question to a person and a lot can be learned from that . A person can give himself away and not even know it by just joking or saying a few sentences. Well time is running out so I'm going to have to sign off for now. I've given you all something to think about and talk about. I'll write much more soon. Daryll Lathers

More interesting contributions from you,Daryll.
It's refreshing to hear some views from a psychologist's perspective. In fact, general discussion can be a bit thin on the ground - for fear that any conjecture will be blown out of the water [?].Throwing ideas in the air is healthy, since it would take a fool to believe that this is all an exact science [?].
I was particularly interested to note that you accept that Darlene's house painting party took place - some even deny this [!].My take, from what I have variously read is that Darlene's husband was painting the outside of their property,to encourage guests to join in.But the tendency was that most of the guests were making regular visits to a back room, where pot was being freely dispensed. So it was really a pot party, and one can understand why anyone in attendance, couldn't really be sure of much - much less, that one or two, denied that they ''were'' there [?!].
There does seem to be a recurring theme, though,of this grey suited guest, who obviously stood out, because of his contrasting attire - and that he was not familiar to most.Darlene, who was still making an effort as hostess, seemed to do a lot of flitting from the kitchen to the main front room - and it was noted by some, that the grey suited man followed her about, asking her questions. In to-day's parlance, she probably just wanted to ''chill out'',and this grey suited man appeared reluctant to ''mingle in'',but instead, insisted on pestering her.
The original reference to the house painting party came into general knowledge, through the Husted report. This is where the ''deniers'',I believe, become unstuck. They assume that the Husted report came into being, based solely on overtures from Darlene's family and close friends. It is my opinion that they should understand that the police make their own decisions, based on information from the public ''and'',more importantly, what they believe they have collected themselves. One should bear in mind, that the Husted report existed,at that time,as an internal police review - and given that a certain Mr.William Grant, was the focus of the report's attention, was,in effect,an illegal exercise by The Vallejo Police.
Lt.Husted was taking a big risk by even considering such a report. But he clearly decided that some record of The Vallejo Police's suspicions should be left behind as a legacy. That The Vallejo Police were largely inactive on Darlene's murder - through no fault of their own intention [?].

Lets talk about some of the things in Robert Graysmith's paperback novel pertaining to possible Zodiac suspects. Arthur Leigh Allen in particular. When they tested him psychologically they found that he had five variations for his personality. I guess even though all these personalities were about the same just a small difference in each one makes it different from the others. He was a very strange character. In particular if he wasn't aware that he had these variations it makes it all the complicated. Sometimes he was more candid than others which stirs the soup even more. In other words you might as well have five people sitting across from the psychologist instead of just one and just because he was so weird you cannot put the finger on him as being the Zodiac. Chances are though the Zodiac was not normal appearing out in public. Also, what was in that little gray box he used to carry around with him which he never seemed to open. He always had it with him never letting it out of his sight. His overall behavior while in a group of people was very abnormal but like I said it doesn't make him a serial killer - just strange. Robert Graysmith was intimidated by him just by being in his presence. This reflected in his writing throughout his novel and should be taken into consideration when analyzing the man. Time is running out so I'll go on but I don't want my readers to think Allen is the one and only possibility in my head. He isn't. This might come as a surprise to many - right Ricardo! I'll write much more in the days to come. Daryll Lathers

Arthur Leigh Allen would stop in and visit his "friends" when they were going to school. He was closest to Don Cheney who roomed with a man named Ron and Sandy Pazzerella. Sandy didn't like Leigh. He thought he was reckless and they just didn't get along. Leigh and Don Cheney would go for long rides and one afternoon Leigh decided to go out to Blue Rock Springs Country Club and meditate. Leigh thought about what he would do to some girl at the parking area there and it wasn't nice. Don Cheney said to Leigh "You had better think long and hard before you try anything like that." Leigh answered "It's too late for that." One must remember that everything that Don Cheney said always pointed towards Leigh being the Zodiac. No matter what it always came back onto Leigh as being the one under suspicion. Remember Don Cheney was also a big and heavy man and when he walked he had a loping gait so he could also pass as the Zodiac. There is a possibility that they could both be working together. That's just a guess but it could have happened. The Vallejo detective George Bawart was always suspicious of Don Cheney because of the closeness of Allen and Don. Also when Don Cheney was being interviewed on the Special Features DVD disk #2 he seemed to have trouble looking straight into the camera. Something didn't seem right. Daryll Lathers

I would like to add one more person who roomed in the rented house that Sandy and Ron had while they were going to college in the late 1950's. His name was Norman Boudreau. He was a friend of Arthur Leigh Allen. Norman said he thought Leigh was unjustly accused while he was under questioning. He felt a little uncomfortable about Leigh but he couldn't say why.
Lake Berryessa: Lake Berryessa was and is a man made lake meaning a stream or river had been blocked up by means of a dam to create a useable water supply for a town or city. Usually houses or graveyards are moved before the water is backed up. Down where I live in upstate New York the Sacandaga Lake is such an example.
While Brian Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard were reading and talking by the lake she saw a man slowly walking towards them. He then walked behind a tree to put on his Zodiac overlay. My question is if he intended to kill them both why did he bother to cover his face? Officer Narlow mentions this in the second disc of the two disc special features pack on the Zodiac. Also after stabbing them the Zodiac called the NAPA County Sheriff Department around supper time. Officer Slaight was standing in for the regular dispatcher. The Zodiac said "I want to report a murder - no a double murder. They were in a Karmann-Ghia." How did he know it was Brian's car unless he followed them to Lake Berryessa? He said "They are 2 miles north of park headquarters." The Zodiac must have been familiar with the local terrain - may have lived close by. He said "I need your money and your car." Why did he need their car? He had his own.
When Donald Cheney went to report about Leigh Allen it might be noted he named three or four officers names. All were made up names except one and that one was David Slaight. After looking at Slaight something just does not set right. He is on the second disc of the special features pack. Daryll Lathers
