An interesting incite,Davb.
I can only presume that any Zodiac related movie, before Fincher's 2007 film, was of little or no merit [?].Some documentaries though, have been ''very good''.
Fincher's film has undoubtedly increased awareness of the phenomenon of The Zodiac Killer.Despite some criticisms,it just happened to be very well made, and deserved its success.
I came across ''Zodiac'' by accident, really.I found myself researching The Santa Rosa Hitchhiker murders, with a possible connection to a murder in Scotland, and his name kept cropping up.It was when I saw his handwriting, that I fell off my chair - and that wasn't the only time [!].
Before that, watching ''Bullit'',''Dirty Harry'',and ''The Streets of San Francisco'' - and the Zodiac connection had never dropped.
It has probably become apparent in the US,that the Zodiac phenomenon has attracted many enthusiasts from the UK.Heaven knows they have had enough serial killers of their own !I sincerely put this down to the letter writing element.I don't believe there has ever been a serial killer,so keen to put pen,to paper. It adds a certain ''mystique'' [?].
I note that Fincher has been approached to make another Zodiac movie. This is not like ''Jaws'' [!] - it would only spoil the 2007 film, which stands up well,on its own,and did not overly sensationalize the reality [?].

At a Z site _This is the Zodiac speaking forum_ the mod found a movie named- House of the Zodiac- and says it was made in 69
but was not released ,and is about a killer ,I think it was a quickly made thing to try to capitolize on the histeria of Zodiac back
then , he thinks it was started before Z was known though, he did research as best he could .
Sony pictures is producting a serial killer low budget Canadian made movie -Z - it is present day , that hints that at the end this
killer was the zodiac killer.
As I remember that 1971 zodiac movie it was like they used a super 8 camera for the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the movie ,maybe ran out of $ for the good camera and actors .

Yes,I suppose there is an element of curiosity,in how film makers might see ways of tackling The Zodiac Killer,as a subject [?].
Naturally, the true enthusiasts would tend to be skeptical [?].Just as with the ''plethora'' of reading material, that finds its way on to the book stands.
It has occurred to me that, taken over the whole piece, the story of Zodiac is perfect for an Opera.''Intro's'' and ''Outro's'' of ''Player's'' and operettas contained within, such as a discreet ''romance'' between Miss Ferrin and Mr.Zodiac [?][!].
Given the knowledge, that I believe I have,it really is a ''Great American Tragedy'',with its roots going back to WW2.
But,back to the known world, the ''industry'' only has to see that 75% of Cinema attenders are under the age of 25,these days - and a smaller percentage of people actually read,on a regular basis. This is bound to influence ''art and culture'',in some ways [?].
Perhaps, the way forward,is Hollywood and Bollywood [?].However, with Hollywood, half the industry is porn movies [!].Whatever next...''This is the Zodiac spanking '' [?].
In researching,I like the concept that we are dealing with a ''time capsule''.One has to put oneself in the period,to get the best out of understanding what was actually taking place [?].
''The Zodiac Killer'' is historical, with ''redemption'' and a ''solution'' still possible.
