An interesting post,Ricardo, and another ''good and solid'' interview from Mr.Hewitt.
Yes,his book has been long awaited - particularly,in light of his insightful and articulate pieces from ''Radians and Inches''.
I have corresponded with Mark Hewitt,on occasion, for about five years, and, though we have not always seen ''eye to eye'',am an admirer of his work.
Mr.Hewitt, distinctly has two ''rules of thumb'',when it comes to Zodiac : He does not believe in the acquisition of a suspect,to investigate - and,he does not believe in ruminations, beyond authenticated Zodiac documentation,i.e.1974.
Perhaps, this places Mr.Hewitt,as more of a ''Zodiac Historian'' ? I would suggest,a bit of a ''limiting'' stance. But Zodiac ''curiosity'',has always been about ''horses for courses''[?].
Mr.Hewitt is a well informed enthusiast.Touted expressions like ''Scholar'' and ''Expert'' have no place in the Zodiac ''arena''.We are all ''Enthusiasts'',with varying extents of experience. After all,no one, including Law Enforcement, who hold the real advantages, has solved the case [!] - yet.
Regardless of invested experience,Mr.Hewitt's book can be recommended,in advance.Alongside Mr.Michael Kelleher [''Into the mind of a serial killer.''],he is in the top echelon of writers of this genre.

Having just listened to the interview of Mark Hewitt, earlier this month,by Norene Balovich,Mr.Hewitt graciously acknowledges that owing to the enormous quantity of Zodiac case detail, there are bound to be an odd inaccuracy,or two,in his new book, that readers might point out.
Just to focus on the 408 cipher solution, first uncovered by Don Harden :
Mr.Harden did ''beat the experts'' to solving this cipher. The FBI admitted that the 408 cipher was in their possession, when Harden's solution was published.
But,only just. The FBI had become involved, following the murder of Darlene Ferrin,July 5th 1969.The 408,in three parts, was sent to The SF Chronicle,The SF Examiner and The Vallejo Times Herald,on July 31st 1969.
Two points,I believe worth noting, for the record :
Much as it was a worthy achievement by Don Harden, solving the 408,within two days of the SF Chronicle publishing the whole cipher, the cipher,as was to be later found, was a rudimentary and traditional cipher construct. To an expert,it would not have taken any longer than the two days required by Harden,to solve.
Harden's successful attempt,is ''merely'' part of the rich tapestry, that the history of the Zodiac case offers.Being,as Harden was,an amateur,it just adds an ''endearing'' aspect to the case, and acknowledgement of Harden's efforts. There was probably an element of regret for Harden - that he would become a technical suspect,by Law Enforcement, for the remainder of his life [!].
Perhaps more pertinent,is the time that the FBI started to become involved.Clearly,it was,on record at least, after the murder of Darlene Ferrin. No doubt the FBI would have been informed about the murders of Betty Lou Jensen and David Faraday [December 20th 1968],by The California Department of Justice. But their murder was ''technically'' a single crime.
What some may not be aware,is that the FBI only assume jurisdiction on murder cases, involving a perceived serial killer - or as was then known,as a ''mass murderer''.
So,as a point of both historical, and political significance,Zodiac was first officially recognized as a serial killer, following the murder of Darlene Ferrin.

Mr.Hewitt is a published,and successful writer.
The late Sherwood Morrill was a distinguished, and highly respected handwriting expert, known to most readers,as the officially appointed expert on the correspondences of The Zodiac Killer.
Both,in no doubt that Zodiac was well read, and held a command, bordering on ''excellence'',of language syntax and grammar. In addition, good letter writing skills.
Never is this more crystallized in the employment of the punctuation mark, the semi colon. Most people ignore its use all together, since they are uncertain of its specific definition, often employing a comma, instead,as an ''easy option''.
Zodiac,as observed by both Hewitt and Morrill, appeared to be comfortable,in expressing himself with the full range of ''grammar options''.If mistakes were made, one always felt that these were deliberate.
This tends to suggest, that not only was Zodiac well read - he had received a disciplined, and good education.
