Good that you have posted this thread,Ricardo.
As the series unfolds,I am confident that we will all try to uphold a balanced viewpoint, with possibly offering fair and constructive criticism.....whether positive or negative.
Albeit veering towards ''the Arts'',it is nonetheless,a ''not insignificant'' moment in the history of the case of The Zodiac Killer. We can't always pick and choose desired ''portrayal'' [?].
As an ''opener'',and perhaps predictably [?],I am fascinated on the decision by The History Channel,to schedule ''The Hunt For The Zodiac Killer'' to run ''side by side'' the second series of ''The Curse Of Oak Island''.
Could just be a coincidence, bearing in mind that the ''Curse of Oak Island'' is featured in Zodiac's ''340'' cipher,as solved by Rubislaw 32,and submitted to the FBI Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Unit, just four months ago. Also,The Crown Prosecution Service,in Edinburgh. In addition, gifted to The San Francisco Chronicle, the original recipients of the cipher,48 years ago.
Subliminal messaging [?].
I aim to find out [!].

Having viewed Episode 2,and now into our stride with the whole docudrama,it seems to be becoming apparent, what this is all about [?].
Not precisely the case of The Zodiac Killer....but something close,in a parallel universe [?].
There was a segment, devoted to Santa Barbara and the Edwards/Domingos murders, which was informative and enlightening.
But,quite frankly, the rest was all over the place,in an effort,it would seem,to just give aspects to the case,a mention, for mentions sake.
If one superimposes a pair of spectacles on a photo of Lawrence Kane, then he ''becomes'' the Zodiac...but equally, one could argue,Mr.Kane becomes Buddy Holly [?].
''CARMEL'',the computer,is a strange phenomenon, which apparently can be fed balls and flags....''Harvey balls'',''Booz balls'' and Naval flags.A combination that sounds more like ingredients for a New Year's Eve cocktail party.
The ''nerve center'' which houses ''CARMEL'',also accommodates the ''Code Team'',busily ''doing their thing''.It is lead by a certain Professor Knight, who informed us,near to the end of episode 2,that ''CARMEL'',for which we have been lead to believe, will be supplying some unanswered questions on the case,is starting to ''think for itself''.
''Artificial Intelligence'' solving the case of The Zodiac Killer....I think not.
I found myself concerned about how ''outsiders'' to the case, might view this series, given that an increase in interest is always welcome, and ought to benefit its public profile.
Sadly,I feel it will,in general,baffle them [?].
No amount of light flashes and guillotine sounds, are going to bolster ''suspense'',if there is nothing that warrants suspense,in the first place [?].
At present,it is all over the place, and resembles one long trailer for some other docudrama,''unobtainable'' in the real world.

Episode 3 started off briskly, with sniffer dogs and helicopters in evidence.
But the Zodiac's elusive bomb....remained precisely that.
Back at the ''nerve center'',in L.A.,the Code Team were wrestling with a mysterious code, called the ''Donna Lass Code''.The Code seemed to appear out of nowhere, then was promptly solved by the ''crack'' team, and ''Carmel'',which issued instructions to where Donna Lass may be buried.
So great panoramic scenes of Northern California were on view. But sadly, did little to lift what was a bit of a ''jolly caper'' into the realms of a ''ripping yarn''.
Sal and Ken,the investigators,continue to look surprised.But it can only be a matter of time,one feels,before they,like everyone else,become bemused,bewildered and baffled.

U.S. viewing figures, for Episode 3,indicate 1.5 million....a small rise of about 100,000 on the first episode.
So,''The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer'' is essentially,holding a constant,of about 1.5 million viewers,in the U.S.
The transmission of ''The Curse of Oak Island'',is attracting approximately 3.5 million viewers, and is the program, normally transmitted before ''The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer''.
Clearly, the scheduler's goal is to hang on to as many viewers, watching ''The Curse of Oak Island'',for ''The Hunt for the Zodiac Killer'',following it.
The general feedback,so far,on Episode 3 was, that it was ''inferior'' to Episodes 1 and 2.
So,it will be interesting to see,if this affects the viewing figures for Episodes 4 and 5.

Episode 4 failed to disappoint, since I believe that we are all used up on ''disappointment''.
As expected, though investigators Sal and Ken,found a perfectly suitable clearing in the pines, close to Lake Tahoe, the search for the body of Donna Pass, turned up a collection of splintered tree roots and nothing much else.
A ''presumed'' visit to the FBI's branch,in San Francisco, saw Sal and Ken meet with a ''presumed'' FBI officer, who informed them, that he might have some FBI files on the Zodiac which,he would be willing to share with the ''dynamic duo''.A ''game changer'' was the expression proffered.
As it turns out,the files in question, are the same as those available, throughout the world, online. But what made them special, was that Sal and Ken,acquired photocopies that they were able to leaf through,at their leisure.
Then it was focusing on the Albany letter of 1973,familiar to Zodiac enthusiasts for a number of years, but passed off as something new and exciting,by the ''Code Team''.The cryptogram, contained within the letter, was duly solved by ''CARMEL'',the computer.Perhaps, more than a coincidence that, the FBI had already solved the same,a long time ago.
The ''cliffhanger'' left with the viewer, was in the form of part of the Zodiac's ''340'' cipher, which, the team member Craig Bauer believes he has solved.Apparently,by ''psychologically immersing himself''.
Could be interesting....but I doubt it.

The 5th and final episode of the series,saw the Code Team,busy themselves over team member,Craig Bauer's partial solve of Zodiac's ''340'' cipher.It looked a decent effort and,interestingly perhaps,even suggested that,serving President,at that time,Richard Nixon,might be in for a mention.
What did become apparent though, was Bauer's substitution preference, had ''run out of track'',by line 8 and,a ''diplomatic'' resolve that there could be a ''cipher within a cipher'' was the concluded general opinion.
Meanwhile, out in the field of investigation,Sal and Ken looked a lot more relaxed. No more ''dusty swelter'' and avoiding animal excrement, for this couple of sleuths,as they found more pleasant surrounds of cafes and restaurants,to conduct interviews and take stock.
A possible link, between some gloves found in Paul Stine's taxi and the pants of Cheri Jo Bates, provided a forensic conundrum, left ''up in the air''.
A second series might be on the cards,if the commercial outlook appears rosy.
In all seriousness, one just hopes that this will spur the ''real law enforcement'' to make progress in the real investigations of this case, and spare us the ''other worldly'' version.
