I am still searching for a used Graysmith Z paperback, that perhaps was signed by Zodiac back in the late 80's. When a young boy encountered an elderly man in a Vallejo restaurant, who claimed to be a fan of the Zodiac's,he gave the boy a autographed copy, signed with the words : "I thought you might like a autographed copy".
It had the word Zodiac along with the Z logo. That boy contacted me and said he didn't know what happened to that book, because he moved so many times and at that time thought the old man was just playing a sick joke on him.

Yesterday I went to the Barnes & Noble book store, to see if there were any new Z books.
One came out on March 3rd called "Zodiac Killer Newly Discovered Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". Has anyone heard of that one , if so is it any good ?
I wonder if it has any information about the Sherlock Holmes movie I found, that was about 4 codes, 3 of which were deciphered the 4th was much harder. I feel that Z may have gotten his code ideas from ?
That movie was called "Sherlock Holmes Secret Weapon".

Sandy, see also 'The Dancing Men'. Holmes found the 'e' first. Nothing to do with the Zodiac of course - although I think he was a fan - but fun!

The 1943 movie “Sherlock Holmes and the Secret Weapon” was actually adapted from “The Adventure of the Dancing Men” even though the plot is different.
Also, there was an episode of a television series about Sherlock Holmes called “The Dancing Men” which first aired on September 16, 1968.
Unfortunately, the episode is not available online at this time.
Since these Sherlock Holmes shows were related to secret codes, maybe the Zodiac killer would have watched them years ago?

Thank you so much Ricardo for this movie that all of us can see.
I couldn't believe just how close it was to the Zodiac's first 3 codes, then one more that was very much like the other 3, but different enough that is was/is very hard to break.
And thanks to Zydeco, now I must see The Dancing Men.

Has there been any further discussion about the graffiti left last year, at the crime scene? I think it may be of the Zodiac. How hard would it be if someone just sneaked a hidden cctv into some boulder (clew) or a nearby high hollow? The ghouls have probably got metal detectors tucked in their anoraks. I do believe that he stops at that crime scene now and then and perhaps writes little messages. I do not believe that he is in his late 80's or early 90's but is in his mid to late 70's, born around 1938 to 1941. I also think that when he wrote: me 37 SFPD 0, he was actually 37 yrs old at that time and decided it was too much of a clue so he added SFPD 0. The suspect I got away from in 1968 looked to be about 30 yrs old, round full face , short , stocky, dark brown curly hair. He drove a car very much like Darlene's car only lighter in color, I believe it was a Mercury Comet. Unfortunately I was told that his name was Larry Kane, it was years later that I found out that he only looked like Kane. He is younger and weighed more than Kane. It wasn't until afterKane died , I was still seeing my suspect around my home and receiving his strange calls that I realized he wasn't Kane. Vallejo PD and Harvey Hines both told me the man who was harassing me was Kane. I finally took a picture of my suspect in Aug.1990, I gave it to Ryder McDowell from the SF Chron.and had him give it to Harvey to see what he would say about that picture? I never heard back . Harvey was a good man , he put in many years of hard work looking at Kane as Zodiac. I put in a few years and many driving miles myself . I do feel he is a good suspect in the Donna Lass case but I can not tie him into any of the other cases.

Hi Sandy
Your story is amazing. What I find so intriguing is that I've always thought these crimes were based in the sixties and early seventies. I started visiting the Bay Area (San Ramon, Danville, Concord) in the late eighties when a couple of friends moved over from the UK and I find it astonishing that these things were still going on then. Are you and Pam still being bothered to this day?
Best regards
David

Yes David , Pam and I are still being bothered by a man claiming to be Zodiac. He has never phoned me telling me that he is Zodiac, he has only told Pam that he is the Zodiac. He would phone me with in minutes of calling her and say : "It's Me". He once left me a note saying that he didn't understand why he is afraid to tell me who he is. He has been more kind to me in his calls than to Pam. (He would cuss at her.)
He has left me a small piece of paper with his logo on it and has carved his logo on the hood of one of my boyfriends cars. He bent my car antenna in the shape of a Z and flattened my tires. He became angry with me after I had him followed and got his license plate number, then taking his picture. It was my police department that suggested I take his picture. That was the best thing I could have done, because now he knows that if anything happens to me or my family. I have documented everything with the police and they have his picture. By doing that, I think it has given me protection. He hasn't shot at me sense then, or tried to force me off of the road. If you come to California to visit your friends again, please contact me so we can meet in person. I can take you to all of the crime scene sites.

Hi Sandy
Have you ever given a name to the guy you think is the Zodiac or do you know it yet? I know you've posted his picture but I think I read somewhere that you don't know his name.
Dave

Thanks for the earlier reply Sandy back in November, I missed it. Amazing this is still going on. Even if it's not Z, it's still highly distressing for Pam and yourself.

Yes DavidUK , it is still going on , not so much with Pam anymore, because she has moved to another state. Although one of her phone calls to me was that a older man told her that he had a message for her to give to Sandy Betts.
He said his name was Juan Hernandez. The last name is the name I have for one of my suspects who I refer to as RH.
I am working on the other name , he is looking pretty good for my second suspect. He did live down south in the late 50's early 60's ,then moved to Vallejo. He has lived in most of the other near by towns where girls were murdered. He is the one I took the picture of who looked to be in construction back in 1990 and around 50 yrs old at that time.
The number 4 was an important number for Zodiac and of course his logo was extremely important. The 4th letter in the alphabet is D , the Zodiac used his logo for the letter D in his cyphers. The name I am looking at has his first name starting with the letter D ( Not David LOL )as well as the last name starting with D. Coincidence perhaps, but maybe not.

Thanks for the link DavidUK. I disagree with some of it. I doubt that Park headquarters was/is 0.7 distance to the crime scene. I have been there many times, at times more than once a year. When I lived in Napa I went there several times per yr. We have measured the distance from the crime scene entrance to park headquarters and it was more that 0.7 miles. I don't have the exact distance off the top of my head but it is closer to the 2 miles than 0.7. The profiler didn't mention the other work place on Lake Herman rd, Syar. Most of the bomb making mixture that Zodiac spoke about could be found at Syar. I have my own thoughts about the Paul Stine crime scene and where I think Zodiac hid. I personally do not believe he had a car that he left in right after the shooting. I believe he hid inside of a home on Spruce st which had a basement apt, that had a back door which faced the "play ground". That was the direction he was headed when last seen and for him to get into that apt and watch everything from the large window , make more sense to me than all of the other theory's.

Well, this conversation about the Zodiac killer seems to have gotten a little hairy... About hair dying peroxide, it made me think about how the Zodiac killer may have disguised his hair to prevent being captured. The Zodiac killer could have disguised himself either during the crime or in his other identity. The Zodiac killer may not have needed to use hair dying peroxide. The Zodiac killer could have used a wig. The Squire for Men and Hansen-Fontana Hairgoods sold men’s wigs. The business was located at 230 Powell Street in San Francisco in 1969. 230 Powell Street is by Geary Street. The Squire for Men and Hansen-Fontana Hairgoods was one block from the intersection of Mason Street and Geary Street (where Paul Stine picked up the Zodiac killer) and three blocks from Frank's Coffee Shop at 10 Geary Street (where Darlene Ferrin went) and Sidney Mobell's jewelry store at 2 Geary Street (where the Zodiac watches were sold). 230 Powell Street in San FranciscoThat is what I have said for years that Zodiac used a wig for his disguise not glasses. I believe that he needed to wear glasses that is why they were under the clip on's at lake B. The first time I saw who I believe was Zodiac, he had dark brown Afro style hair , that could have been a wig for all I know .Lake Be was dark brown hair, 2 weeks later lighter hair in a crew cut.
