It appears certainly the case that Zodiac was influenced by his times, and the popular culture in particular.
With Zodiac watches becoming fashionable, particularly among military servicemen at that time,it is likely that such items would hold appeal, and indeed influence on Zodiac.
It is always possible, though, that subject matter of a more historic nature, might spark interest in Zodiac, equally.
Tourists visiting San Antonio and Austin,Texas, are often offered coach excursions to visit the town of Stonewall, which lies 60 miles to the west of Austin, and 70 miles to the north of San Antonio.
The historic town of Stonewall, holds attraction,in that it has its own national park, and is the birthplace of the 36th President of the United States,Lyndon Baines Johnson.
In addition, and on the outskirts to the south-east,is a few acres of Cotton fields, with a solitary headstone, marking a town that once was.
The town of ''Zodiac''.
In 1845,a band of about 200 European Mormons, made their way to Austin, and hired themselves out as labourers.
After just a few years, the Mormon settlers moved to Gillespie County, where they acquired a piece of land, and created their own town, which they called Zodiac.
The new settlers got to work, building mills and houses. But,tragically, within four years the town was destroyed by floods. Those who survived, fled. All that remained was a graveyard, employed to bury the dead, and which was subsequently to receive the internment of additional bodies from the ''unforeseen'' Civil War.
In 1885,an attempt was made to resurrect the town.A school and houses were built.Zodiac was renamed ''Rocky Hill''.The graveyard was simply ploughed over, and turned into Cotton fields.
To-day,a large and simple headstone marks the place where the old town of Zodiac used to exist.A headstone that surveys ploughed farming land.
Tourists are aware that, beneath that land lies an underworld, populated by the dead, forever existing in a peaceful afterlife.
