An interesting article posted,Ricardo, and does pose the question whether,at least some of these murders of prostitutes aren't linked in some way.More specifically, that a single perpetrator might be responsible.
The Strathclyde region, which constitutes the city of Glasgow and its vicinity, has a population in excess of 2.5 million.Very large....so,on a point of social observation, one should not be too surprised about the, nevertheless worrying, quantity of prostitute deaths under suspicious circumstances.
Focusing on the,so far uncertain, extent of illegal police monitoring, that appears to have taken place at Police Scotland's C.C.U.,the generally accepted reason is down to a desire,by factions of Police Scotland,to protect information from the public, with regards to the murder of one prostitute.
That being,the murder of Emma Caldwell,on April 5th 2005.
If we,at least, try to examine the Durham Constabulary report, submitted on the last working day before Christmas,a few weeks ago,all indications suggest that matters started to go wrong at the Counter Corruption Unit,in terms of strictly lawful behaviour,on March 4th 2015.
The tenth anniversary of Emma Caldwell's murder was on April 5th 2015....with the Lord Advocate's announcement of an official murder re-investigation,on May 26th 2015.
Including Deputy Chief Constable's Neil Richardson's claim of an ongoing ''live murder enquiry'',that March 4th 2015 date, then, seems to be when it all started transcending,at the C.C.U.,into a collision course with illegality.
And yet,if ''we'' merely go six days earlier,to February 27th,we find that the Lord Advocate has announced the official re-investigation of the murder of Brenda Page,a genetics scientist,in July 1978.
And further to this,if ''we'' merely go two days before this March 4th 2015,we now find that the District Attorney for Essex County,MA,USA was drafting a letter,to a bereaved of murder victim,Joan Webster,in November 1981,words to the effect that Ms.Webster's case file had been handed over to another L.E. agency, for the purposes of re-investigation.
Brenda Page's murder,took place 200 miles and 27 years,from Emma Caldwell's murder.
Joan Webster's murder, took place the width of the Atlantic Ocean, and 24 years, from Emma Caldwell's murder.
But,are ''we'' being too naive, not to start realising that there are some ''dots'' that need joining up [?].
That, perhaps, when it comes to policing, that there may be ''Something rotten,in the nation state of Scotland'' [?].

With the recent publication of the report into ''shenanigans'' at Police Scotland's Counter Corruption Unit, going back to a presumed timescale, that started on March 4th 2015,and the subsequent resignation of ''sidelined'' Chief Constable Philip Gormley, thoughts from the press,in particular, start focusing on who will become the next leading officer of the core 23,000 strong force.
Acting Chief Constable Iain Livingstone,is considered the ''heir anointed'' choice, given his perceived steadying influence,in the last six ''tempestuous'' months.
But is his appointment,a given ?
It is presumed that the official police watchdog, the Scottish Police Authority, lead by new ''chair'',Professor Susan Deacon, will decide on this matter.
Four days ago,it was announced that the misconduct charge, that had been levelled against Deputy Chief Constable Iain Livingstone, and was deferred,is now to become ''active'' again.
This misconduct charge, relates to accusations that D.C.C.Livingstone failed to deal with a criminal allegation about officers at the Counter Corruption Unit,in 2015.
So,it may be the case that the S.P.A.,are playing their cards close to their chest,in their considerations about who might actually become the new Chief Constable.
D.C.C.Livingstone is part of the ''Old Guard'' of Strathclyde monopolised senior officers, most of whom have been ''retired'',in an effective,''clear out'' in the last 2-3 years.
Will D.C.C.Livingstone remain,and take over Police Scotland,on a permanent basis ?
Or,become part of the ''carnage'',in the wake of the ''spying scandal'' ?
And,at whose ''actual'' behest ?

The Investigatory Powers Tribunal,an investigatory body answerable to the British Government, has ordered Police Scotland not to destroy any information it used,to drag innocent officers into the spying scandal, linked to the murder, and subsequent murder re-investigation of Emma Caldwell.
They have warned the Force, that any destruction of data would be a breach of their legal obligation.
Last week,Durham Constabulary's Chief Constable,Michael Barton, told the Justice sub-Committee on policing,at Holyrood, that Police Scotland had prevented him from carrying out a proper investigation of ''events'' at the Counter Corruption Unit.He was subsequently forced to downgrade his report to an ''Enquiry'',as a result.
C.C.Barton further claimed that, had he been given full access to officers, his report would have been completed six months earlier....and at far lesser financial cost.
C.C.Barton accused Police Scotland of ''Ineptitude'',and suggested that ''People have dug themselves into the trenches.''.

As the third anniversary of the murder re-investigation of Brenda Page [July 14th 1978],passed by without so much as a mention,in the Scottish press,a statement with regard to the murder re-investigation of Emma Caldwell [April 5th 2005],was released by Police Scotland.
Investigating detectives have now admitted that they are seeking a ''white male'',who is believed to have had a preference for sex in the open.
This runs contrary to their original investigation, when they appeared to be seeking a suspect of,exclusively,Asian ethnicity.
As a consequence,some prostitutes,historical or otherwise,have been re-interviewed.
Detective Superintendent David McLaren commented :
'' I am unable to go into specific details, but officers continue to interview people who were involved in prostitution around that time [April 2005],and who may have information which could help us .''.

I've been recently looking at the Zodiac case and the words that caused me to Google if he had a British connection was "fiddle + fart". It's a completely British/Australian thing to say fiddle fart - meaning you're procrastinating or not putting much effort into something. He may not be British born but he's got British parents.

Interesting comments,Hangy....and thanks for your contribution.
This thread is usually devoted to a diary of events happening in Scotland, where it is believed that,up to three known cases, and a further two possible cases, may be linked to the case if the Zodiac Killer.
But good that you remind us,to keep options open, and up for discussion.
With the expression ''fiddle and fart'',it has been noted that its familiarity, has links with the Southern States of America...and Texas,in particular.
So,we could be looking at a sizeable section of the English speaking world, with historical links to Britain [?].
If there is a general opinion about Zodiac, then it is that he is an American Anglophile.
Your suggestion of British parentage,is probably as good as anyone's.
Thanks again.

In light of the news of a real breakthrough,in the re-investigation of the murder of Emma Caldwell, her mother Margaret's solicitor, and human rights campaigner,Aamer Anwar, has made the following statement :
'' For Emma's mother Margaret, the last 13 years has been a long journey full of heartache which,as each day passed, was made even worse to know that Emma's killer was still on the streets.''.
'' As we approach the [13th] anniversary,we are now finally at a critical stage.Emma's family have never given up fighting for justice,in the hope that one day they will see her brutal killer locked away for life.''.
''There can never be a time on justice and, while 13 years ago,Emma was betrayed by police who should have incarcerated her killer, the present investigation team have renewed their hope,by working day and night, for the past two years.''.

Police Scotland's watchdog committee, the Scottish Police Authority, have,as of to-day,advertised the vacancy for a new Chief Constable.
This, following the official resignation of ex-Chief Constable Philip Gormley, last February.
A new Chief Constable will be expected to lead a force of 23,000 core officers, and manage an allocated budget of $ 1.5 Billion per year.
A basic annual salary of $ 300,000 is in offer to the successful candidate.
Comment :
One might hope, and expect this time, that procrastination and prevarication, with regard to old skeletons in the cupboard,at the Counter Corruption Unit, will not be incumbent on an incoming Chief Constable.
Police Scotland's Counter Corruption Unit, has now been re-branded as the '' Anti Corruption Unit ''.
Further news on ''Operation Bynum'' has yet to surface.

News emerging in the Emma Caldwell murder re-investigation,with code name ''Operation Bynum'' :
Last Friday,a file was formally handed over to public prosecutors,by Detective Chief Superintendent David McLaren.
The file identifies and names a suspect.
A spokesman for the re-investigation team said :
'' As this remains a live investigation,it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time. ''
Margaret Caldwell,mother of murder victim Emma,commented :
'' Since Emma's death,I have lost my husband, who died without seeing justice for our daughter.I have been forced to endure years of uncertainty. We have waited long enough for justice.I hope the Lord Advocate can understand that. ''.

Three senior police officers,at one time the subject of a mole hunt,by Police Scotland's Counter Corruption Unit, have been refused compensation.
This,in relation to ''whistleblowing''to the press, with regard to the Emma Caldwell murder case.
Despite Durham Constabulary Chief Constable Barton's conclusion that the officers had been ''gravely wronged'',and should receive compensation.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said :
''Police Scotland has apologised unreservedly [to the three officers] for the [C.C.U.'s] actions.''
He continued :
''The Scottish Police Authority and Police Scotland have separately reviewed whether there is justification for making ex gratia payments and, following careful consideration have decided that there is not.''.

In the last hour, and close to the 40th anniversary of the murder of Dr.Brenda Page [July 14th 1978],her sister Rita Ling, has shared her thoughts with the press :
''Brenda was an extremely intelligent woman, with her whole life ahead of her.It pains us to think of the great things she would have achieved. It is important that the police and Crown Office have all potential information available to them to bring the person responsible for her death to court. Please come forward if you think you can help.''.
In February 2015,The Lord Advocate Frank Mulholland, instructed officers from Police Scotland to re-investigate the murder of Brenda Page.
Comment :
Police officers from the Brenda Page re-investigation team have renewed appeals to the public, for any further information that they might hold.In addition,to underline their determination to bring justice to the family and bereaved of Brenda Page.
But,they are raking over the same old coals.
