There are several possible connections between Earl Van Best, Jr. and other named suspects in the Zodiac case.
Earl Van Best, Jr. was sent to Atascadero State Hospital in 1963. Arthur Leigh Allen worked at Atascadero State Hospital in 1961 and 1962.
Allegedly, Earl Van Best, Jr. knew Rick Marshall and Robert Vaughn at the Avenue Theater in San Francisco.
Allegedly, Earl Van Best, Jr. was an acquaintance of Bobby Beausoleil, a member of the Manson family with Bruce Davis.
Even if Earl Van Best, Jr. was not the Zodiac killer, it is possible that he could have known the Zodiac killer.

Hi-
Yeah, Harris is "really" credible. What are the odds that he represented DeLouise and then "just happened" to have overheard Best saying what he did? Such hearsay statements from proven publicity minded characters like Harris are nonsense.

Chris Harris said that he told Napa County Sheriff Tom Johnson about the encounter with the unknown suspect which happened at a diner at Napa in 1970.
Of course, even if an encounter with someone did actually happen years ago, it would be impossible to prove years later that the man was Earl Van Best, Jr., let alone the Zodiac killer.

You people are lame. You were not even born when Harris was investigating the Zodiac Killer. But you feel the need to discredit information that you have only read about not experienced for yourselves. I think Harris is 100 correct it was Earl Van Best Jr. Never in the history of"Claims" regarding the Zodiac Killer's identity has anyone had solid Forensic Proof and Eye witness testimony to back it up until Gary Stewart and Chris Harris came along. If you were to take off your Dunce hats and actually use your brain you would realize that forensics don't lie but Police Officers do! Anyone who doesn't believe the forensic Proof to keep the Zodiac a mystery is a BAFOON!

Thanks for your contribution,''Justin''.
Your opinions appear to be ''straightforward'' [?].You think that Harris is [100% ?] correct that it was Earl Van Best Jr.,and yet it is unacceptable that others may disagree [?].The difference of opinion is based on what, precisely [?].
Yes,forensics don't lie - as a general statement of fact. From what I am aware,Law Enforcement have had no further interest in Earl Van Best Jr as a Zodiac suspect - and at least for the last nine months.
Indeed,as in any walk of life,Police Officers have been known to lie.In these isolated cases, the individuals are usually asked to resign or ''retire'' from the force. As a soon to be retired detective once said : ''Hell,we even lie to the fish in the sea.''
That detective was reflecting ironically - in the vast majority of cases, its about general prevarication and subterfuge - in order to protect information that may be useful in court at a later time.If this information is compromised before,it may prove prejudicial against a prospective conviction. One has to be realistic enough to give the cops some ''width'' [?] - in the long term interests of Justice [?].
Unless the Police have a vested interest in the future of Northern Californian tourism, there really is no cover-up on the Zodiac case.Just too many of the victim's ''bereaved'' are still waiting for answers.Answers that Law Enforcement remain optimistic about finding - by having enough evidence, with which to proceed to court.
Keep the posts coming - and thank you again,Justin.
