The Zodiac may have been inspired by the Zodiac watch. Here are the advertisements for the Zodiac watch which appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle and Examiner prior to July and August, 1969. For anyone who is interested, here is a link to my report about it: Project MK-ZODIAC The Zodiac Watch Ads mk-zodiac.com/ZodiacWatchAds.html

If there has ever been any doubt about the source of association between the cross hair symbol and Zodiac,I think these adverts will lay that to rest [?].

If there has ever been any doubt about the source of association between the cross hair symbol and Zodiac,I think these adverts will lay that to rest [?]. In retrospect, instead of wishing to see a lot of people wearing the Zodiac button, why didn't the Zodiac killer wish to see a lot of people wearing the Zodiac watch? Or maybe the Zodiac killer already saw a lot of people wearing the Zodiac watch?

The Zodiac killer mentioned the Zodiac button in several communications. The Zodiac button did not exist in 1969.
However, it seem that the Zodiac killer never mentioned the Zodiac watch. The Zodiac watch existed in 1969.
The Zodiac killer did not want to get caught, so maybe it was too much of a clue for the Zodiac killer to confirm that there was a link between the Zodiac watch and the Zodiac killer.

Zodiac watch connections :
The Swiss made Zodiac Sea Wolf wrist watch first made its appearance in 1953.It gained real popularity internationally, when featured in the Swiss watch pavilion,at the 1964 World Fair in New York.It was more streamline than its Omega and Rolex submariner competitors - and less expensive. It particularly attracted the attention of US military stores, and soon became a ''must have'' with US military servicemen in South East Asia, during the sixties and seventies.
''The Sea Wolf'',a novel by Jack London [1904],is a psychological adventure novel, which recounts a story of protagonist Humphrey Van Neyden, who is picked out of the waters in San Francisco Bay,after a collision involving a ferry and another ship. The captain who saves him,is a formidable man called Wolf Larsen. As Van Neyden gets to know him,he realizes that he is a sociopath, but nevertheless very well read.References to Charles Darwin,Omar Khyyam,William Shakespeare and Jon Milton emerge, throughout the book.
''The Sea Wolf'' is presumed to have been influenced by ''Captains Courageous'' by Rudyard Kipling. This book ends with a party of seafarers making a rail journey from San Diego to Chicago. But it is generally known that Kipling planned this journey to be from San Francisco to New York.
''Fossil'',the company that now owns the Zodiac watch copyright, are starting to market a retro range of Sea Wolf watches.Perhaps Arthur Leigh Allen's ''no date automatic'' will be included.Prices will be $1,000 - $1,200,though.

Derivations of the term ''Sea Wolf'' ---------------------------------------
The name Sea Wolf is attributed to a type of fish, and a large breed of marine mammal, known as the Sea Lion.
It is also the name of a variety of American manufactured war submarines.
According to Robert Graysmith, the Zodiac mailed a type written letter to the SF Chronicle,on July 19th 1978.
The letter contained a cryptic laced message,in self celebration that Zodiac was back to his ''killing ways'',and sending out a clarion call to the whole of California.
In that message,Zodiac had posed a number of riddles, including the following :
''I am athletic.I could be swim fins or a piece of scuba gear.''.
Possible interpretations, include that the Zodiac worked in a marine branch of engineering.
Also, that it alluded to the recreation of diving.Perhaps a ''palm off'' on Arthur Leigh Allen, who was known to be a keen diver.
A more simple solution, perhaps,is that the Zodiac is alluding to the Sea Wolf Zodiac watch.
In effect, himself by name, ''The Zodiac''.

Ricardo, Does anyone know if the listing of "Frank's Coffee Shop" in Darlene's address book was in her handwriting? Or was it possibly in someone else's handwriting? How did Darlene know Frank Kozusko?
