Well, this conversation about the Zodiac killer seems to have gotten a little hairy... About hair dying peroxide, it made me think about how the Zodiac killer may have disguised his hair to prevent being captured. The Zodiac killer could have disguised himself either during the crime or in his other identity. The Zodiac killer may not have needed to use hair dying peroxide. The Zodiac killer could have used a wig. The Squire for Men and Hansen-Fontana Hairgoods sold men’s wigs. The business was located at 230 Powell Street in San Francisco in 1969. 230 Powell Street is by Geary Street. The Squire for Men and Hansen-Fontana Hairgoods was one block from the intersection of Mason Street and Geary Street (where Paul Stine picked up the Zodiac killer) and three blocks from Frank's Coffee Shop at 10 Geary Street (where Darlene Ferrin went) and Sidney Mobell's jewelry store at 2 Geary Street (where the Zodiac watches were sold). 230 Powell Street in San Francisco

Very interesting, but I'd be more inclined on the peroxide camp - a ''toop'' could ''topple'' in a ''tumble'' [?].
Keeping it on a more serious note [...though enjoyed the thought of Stalin going nuts [!]...],the postage stamps that Zodiac used, are presumed to have been removed from a stamp collection, that Zodiac kept.He ''overpaid'' on ''stamp duty'',only on account that he needed to ensure that the duty was adequate for safe arrival, and without delay.
The popular thinking behind this is that Zodiac was reluctant to risk any attention he might bring to himself,by regular visits to post offices.
Similarly,specialized outlets,such as wig retailers [?].

It is entirely possible that Zodiac employed the use of a wig, though not necessarily exclusively. He may have used peroxide also - to both change hair color ''and'' change it back to his natural color. At certain times,he may have let his hair grow out - then settled on a crew cut.
Personally,I believe that Zodiac had very curly hair,to the point of ''crinkly'' - which he did not like, and therefore, made attempts to straighten it for vanity purposes. This may have been because he was a white man who,on occasion was mistaken for person of mixed race - which may have irked him [?].Whatever the reason,I believe that Zodiac realized that, when it came to requiring disguises, his personal ''hair problem'',could actually be used to his advantage.
I believe also, that Zodiac had poor sight, both long and near, and normally, would have required the use of spectacles, all the time. Some of the general ''clumsiness'' in his presentation of letters and envelope, may account for this. That, and having particularly large hands. He had probably,at times, experimented with contact lenses - again, for vanity purposes. But for the main part, was forced to settle for ''Bi-focals''.

I believe that there is a general agreement that Zodiac watches represent the most persuasive influence on Zodiac's branding of himself. There are other influences that may have contributed, also [The Ford Zodiac,The Tenth Victim] - but the Sea Wolf Wristwatch ''sells itself'',with its popularity and eponymous commercial promotion,at that time.Including outlets such as the jewelry shop next to Frank's coffee shop.
It is most unlikely that Zodiac was the third person,of a party of three that went diving with Darlene and Jim Philips to the Virgin Islands. These ''activity'' holidays have always been ''package'' in nature. All costs and itinerary are paid and arranged,in advance, with a travel company - therefore ''accountability'' and ''documentation'' is at a premium. In addition, holiday destinations, such as The Virgin Islands are ''restrictive'' - one can't just turn up,and camp on a beach [!].
Coupled with having interviewed Jim Philips,Law Enforcement agencies investigating the murder of Darlene Ferrin, would quite easily be able to obtain any relevant details on that holiday, they so wished. This would include the identity of ''The third person''.
Brian Hartnell has articulated all pertinent details on the Lake Berryessa incident to the police, including a description of Zodiac's costume.Indeed,he has been generous enough to share much of that information with the general public,on camera.
Zodiac, more than likely, was no genius. But the facts remain, that Law Enforcement has failed to solve this case,to date.As with any unsolved crime,it will remain deeply felt by them.It is their job to solve such cases, and have human feelings, like the rest of us.
No amount of speculation,by others, changes this set of circumstances. But free forums sites, such as ''ZKM'',give us the opportunity to express our opinions...freely.

What was around that section of Geary st . that may have been of interest to Zodiac ? strip clubs, bars , xrated theaters ,gay bars ? The play -Hair -was partly done in the nude ,and was playing at a theater on Geary st. and he seems to like plays , he may have caught a show there . it could be the trigger that set him off

Even for those who know little about the city of San Francisco, are aware that Geary Street represents the ''Artisan'' and ''Theater Land '' center.
It is of particular interest, that you have mentioned the play ''Hair'',Davb.
Based admittedly,on what I have read,it has been reported that Paul Stine was traveling towards Geary St.,after a ''cabbie's break'',with the intention of finding custom,in the knowledge that the play ''Hair'' would have just finished, and that there would be a spillage of audience folk, onto the street, requiring a lift home.
So,it is entirely possible that this where Stine picked up Zodiac, who then requested a lift to 345 Hyde Street, whose true resident was the mystic and artist,Robert H.Coon.
It is this person, who is often confused with the musician and songwriter Robert H.Hunter, and to be honest,it is only Law Enforcement who would have absolute confirmation, through an entry in Paul Stine's fares book, that 345 Hyde Street, was Zodiac's primary destination.
The implication then being, that Zodiac ''lured'' Stine to the ultimate place of his execution, with a ''fat tip'' in advance,in order to take Zodiac ''the extra distance''.
Hence,Zodiac stealing Stine's wallet,for the purpose of ''retrieving'' a bank note,handed over earlier,in lieu of Zodiac's request.
Given this scenario, one assumes that,Stine, having noted his trip to 345 Hyde Street, intended to return to Geary Street, for guaranteed custom.
But the natural attraction of an extra cash bonus, cost Stine his life.

I am constantly amazed, that Zodiac website forums, are filled with pages upon pages of members constantly ''arguing the toss'' over Paul Stine's place of execution and the [understandable] confusion and ''presumed mistakes'' made by the police,in its aftermath.
This,I would suggest,is just a ''bicker'' over a horse,that has already bolted [?].
It seems to me,that from a warped perspective, the planned murder of ''a'' Taxi Driver, was a ''Tour de Force'',by Zodiac.
Zodiac had figured that he required a guaranteed ''pick-up'',at an ultra busy moment,so that any cab driver would think that a ''home destination'' was a given.
So,Zodiac gives Stine an address [345 Hyde Street],and when they duly arrive,Stine notes his trip in his fares book. But as Zodiac is paying Stine,he requests another trip - effectively,an extended trip - with the lure of a cash bonus.
Some reports suggest that Stine also noted his new destination in his fares book as ''Washington and Maple'',but we know that Stine's execution took place at ''Washington and Cherry''.If this is the case,it only serves to confirm that, offered a ''handsome tip'',in advance,Stine wasn't going to ask too many questions of Zodiac being ''non specific'' about precise destination.Perhaps Zodiac offered up that he thought he knew the required new address, but would have to be in its vicinity,to recognize it,by sight[?].
So,Stine knew that a straightforward trip, largely involving a drive, straight along California Street and back, and Stine would be back picking up fares at Curran Theater, where ''Hair'' audience members, would be still waiting for a lift home.
Once Stine had accepted Zodiac's money, plus cash bonus,Stines fate was sealed.Zodiac had succeeded in drawing his proposed victim out of his ''comfort zone''.Away from the ''busy-ness'' of people and thoroughfares....to a much quieter part of the city, for that time of the day. And,most likely, close to a getaway vehicle, that would spirit Zodiac away, over The Golden Gate Bridge, and into the darkness of the night.

As Paul Stine turned off Hyde Street, onto California Street, heading directly north towards the Presidio Heights part of the city,Zodiac, the passenger, must have felt that everything was going to plan.
Zodiac knew now, that Robert H.Coon's ''implication'' was registered in Stine's farebook.Coon was an ''advocator'' of The Glastonbury Zodiac, and believed that the signs of Zodiac were linked to the 12 days of Christmas.Enough surely,to keep the cops scratching their heads, for a while, after this ''event''.
But Zodiac had to keep focused,on what was to come.He had to ensure a clinical kill - and he had to remove Stine's wallet. The ''blood trophy'' would be a bonus.
What must have been heartening for Zodiac was, that he was now in control.Stine had agreed that Zodiac would indicate where Zodiac wished to be let out.Zodiac, within a couple of blocks, could pick his spot, free from pedestrians.
Zodiac was aware of the place that he had parked his getaway car,and had practiced the timings of reaching the far side of the Golden Gate Bridge, and out of SFPD jurisdiction. He had confidence that his car would perform well.
As Presidio Heights came closer into view, one wonders if,perhaps for a brief moment, the irony of the occasion became apparent. He,the executioner, was being chauffeur driven to a self-appointed place of execution, allocated for that very same chauffeur.
The hapless and oblivious Paul Stine....$20 richer....but with just two minutes left in this world,to spend it.
