I would like to find out whether or not Joe Don Dickey is still alive. I'm fairly certain that they (that is, Richard Marshall and Joe Don Dickey) were the same person. Same place of birth - Both had connections to Hamlin, TX - (Hamlin Herald. 06/07/1940.) (The Abilene Reporter-News. July 21, 1950.) Joe Don Dickey lived in San Rafael, CA at approximately the same time frame as Marshall - (The Abilene Reporter. July 06, 1975.) (Radio Amateur Callbook. 1973.) Both resided at the same address in San Jose, CA - (California Unclaimed Fund Index.) (Radio Amateur Callbook. 1993.)

Thank you for posting these documents! I would like to find out whether or not Joe Don Dickey is still alive. I'm fairly certain that they (that is, Richard Marshall and Joe Don Dickey) were the same person. Yes, the documents you provided do make it seem that Joe Don Dickey changed his identity to Richard Reed Marshall circa 1950. There is a question because, for some reason, the parent’s full names are redacted on the Application for Social Security Account Number for Richard Reed Marshall. Is this application dated April 26, 1950? Richard Reed Marshall is mentioned in the article dated July 21, 1950, and next in the article dated August 1, 1950. (Abilene Reporter-News, July 21, 1950) (Abilene Reporter-News, August 1, 1950) If Joe Don Dickey assumed the identity of someone named Richard Reed Marshall, then maybe there is a birth record of the person who was born as Richard Reed Marshall. Also, I am looking for any reference to Joe Don Dickey in any document between 1950 and 1974.

"Is this application dated April 26, 1950?"I read it as April 26, 1954. This is consistent with the age and date of birth recorded on the application. The only other record that I can find for a Richard Reed Marshall is the following passage from Photography Magazine, dated ca. 1952-54: books.google.com/books?id=M3EqAAAAMAAJ&dq=%22richard+reed+marshall%22&focus=searchwithinvolume&q=%22richard+reed+marshall%22Transcript - "was my face red!
Graduate Student
For some reason, I was the only man on Kwajalein Island with a press camera and, consequently, I was frequently called on to photographically cover athletic contests, USO shows, and other events. It was at a USO show that my downfall came. I had spent the afternoon at the outdoor theater where the show was being held and during my shooting was approached by a young sailor carrying a simple reflex-type box camera equipped with a flash. “You seem to know what you’re doing,” he told me. "Mind if I follow you around?” I, of course, did not, and took him under my wing to show him the best angles and how to make the most of poor conditions, even perhaps growing a bit (but only a bit) magnanimous. That night, in the hobby-shop darkroom, we again found ourselves together, and after development of our two sets of pictures, I was secretly glad he was there. The next morning when I saw the USO troupe off at the airstrip, I handed them a promised set of pictures, all printed from my young sailor protegé’s negatives. I, you see, had neglected to pull my lens board all the way out to the infinity stop.
