See, Voigt and Co describe Kane as some stupid, idiotic dunce but as we see in this article, his associate states "Kaye has an amazing knowledge of Civil Law." That's how he kept getting charge after charge dismissed. He was arrested also after an altercation with a police officer over a parking infraction. Outcome: Dismissed.

Hey Sandy, Barton isn't Kaye's middle name, here's why he referred to himself as Lawrence Barton.....

Larry Kaye, as evidenced in the Newspaper snippet below, had all charges dismissed against him and these charges were assaulting a Police Officer (in uniform) and then resisting arrest & doing so in the lobby of a busy Hotel in front of many witnesses & The Presiding Judge still dismissed the charges & case against Kaye. In fact shortly thereafter, Kaye filed a lawsuit againt this cop over the incident in question & won. And Mr Kaye does appear to own a rather active sense of humour: When Law Officials searched his property in the 1950's the following was documented: "Prominently displayed in the Appt. of Playboy Theft suspect Lawrence Kaye was a giant cup that was engraved with his name & the inscription 'To the World's best lover Larry Kaye - From the Women of America'. *Gave me the giggles at his tongue in cheek humour :-)

Those are great ! The one about Miss Barton is very short, is there a reason you showed only a small part of it ? I would like to know more about her. It shows that Kane was still in NY in 1950, when do you think he and his mother moved to Calif ?
I knew he wasn't brain dead, I would like to get the date of his car reck.I am pretty sure that was in Calif.

I didn't choose to show such a short crop Hun, that's how the piece was when I came across it after being pointed to a website & link that has in total 19 Newspaper references & articles directly in relation to Kaye. Some of the published pieces are just a crop/snippet, others on thee are the full 2 page articles. If you want the link to the site/page let me know & I'll email it to you if you like. :-)

Hi-
If Zodiac had been a small time crook, this would be of great interest. This article harkens to the old profile that Z was a "known criminal." I think it is much more interesting when you find someone who made bizarre claims about flying saucers as far back as 1947 just to get his name on the front pages of two Bay Area newspapers. THAT sounds more like Z to me than cheating people out of money.

My personal feeling is that the main reason Zodiac disliked the police as much as he did, was because he had many run ins with them . Be it traffic stops , getting caught for minor crimes etc. Zodiac did like reading about himself as Zodiac, but I doubt he would do anything to bring attention to his real name in the newspaper if he could help it.

WC do you have the date for the Eileen Barton / Larry Kaye hook up ? I tried to find it but couldn't, so yes please send me the link. I did however get some information the both of them. Her father was Ben Barton, who was Frank Sinatra's music publisher .
I found another crime Larry Kaye of NY was involved in, in Hollywood Ca. Oct.15th 1946. He was with his friends Max Shulman and Larry "Kay". They beat up a man and woman named James and Kathryn Drance.
In the Omaha World Herald paper 3-30-53 There is a picture of a blond Mrs Larry Kaye of NY City.
Feb 53 Eileen Barton was married to Wynn Lassner.
Feb 57 she had a love named Vic Jarmel
4-20-61 Eileen Barton age 30 married Dan Shaw age 40 of Brielle NJ, in Juarez Mexico and were living in Beverly Hills.S.he was also an actress on the CBS video village series
Oct 9th 1960 Richard and Pat Nixon invited Eileen Barton to go with them to Miami as their guest performer in a campain rally. She also sang on Frank Sinatra's shows at WGAR in 1944 and in 1955 she sang " The year we fell in love" on Sinatra's WFAA show. She was best known for her song " If I knew you were conin Ida baked a cake"

Thank you very much ! So Larry went to Hollywood two months after that article, perhaps to see Eileen Barton sing and he was arrested there. That may have been what broke them up ?
Don't you think that it interesting that one of his friends names was very much like the one he used? (Larry Kay? )

Don't you think that it interesting that one of his friends names was very much like the one he used? (Larry Kay? ) It's definitely bizarre. Do you have any more information pertaining to this incident? If I were forced to speculate, I would guess that the Larry "Kay" in question was carrying a false ID, possibly one that was furnished to him by the 'real' Larry Kaye. Of course, this is merely a guess.

Well it hasn't escaped my attention that in many of these press articles Kaye is described as 'Handsome' as seen in this feature below: Just reminds me of the description the three girls gave of the man they saw watching them at Lake Berryessa: "Around 40 years of age, good looking. . ."
